Explore Harleen’s journey as she completed her JISCOP Work Experience through a two-week placement at the Psychiatry and Psychological Health Department, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), where she had the opportunity to work alongside two professors.

During her time there, Harleen gained a deeper understanding of the department’s role beyond academic lecturing. She discovered that, in addition to teaching Psychiatry and Psychological Health, the department actively supports patients in collaboration with government bodies and conducts various initiatives to promote mental health awareness.

Harleen was exposed to different aspects of the field, including education, patient assistance, and therapy sessions. She was also briefly involved in thesis discussions, where she contributed by assisting with data collection.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Thong Vie Cheong and Dr. Nicholas Pang Tze Ping for their guidance and for providing Harleen with valuable insights into the field of psychology. This experience has inspired her to pursue a future in neuropsychology as a profession.

The Jesselton International School Charity Association (JISCA) and Drama Club recently organised a donation drive for Animal Lover Independent Rescuer (ALIR), an NGO dedicated to rescuing and caring for abandoned animals.

Together, our community made a difference. Animal food supplies were collected through the generosity of JIS parents, while the Jesselton International School Charity Association (JISCA) contributed RM5,000 in support of the Drama Club’s fundraising efforts.

We are incredibly proud of our students for showing such kindness and responsibility toward animal welfare.

If you would like to support ALIR, you can reach them via WhatsApp: +60 17-899 5159.

Venture into Athena’s inspiring journey as she successfully completed her two-week work experience under the Jesselton International School Community Outreach Programme (JISCOP).

Athena’s internship at Gleneagles Hospital Kota Kinabalu was a meaningful step into the world of healthcare, offering her a firsthand look at what it truly means to care for others.

Throughout her time in Kota Kinabalu, Athena gained valuable exposure to the daily operations of a professional medical environment. From observing patient care processes to understanding the importance of teamwork, communication, and precision, she developed a deeper appreciation for the dedication and compassion required in the healthcare field.

Her experience was further enriched under the guidance of Dr. Tan Wen Foong, where she had the opportunity to learn about skin treatments and dermatological care. This hands-on exposure not only enhanced her knowledge but also sparked a deeper interest in the medical field.

This internship strengthened Athena’s confidence and professionalism while helping her explore her future aspirations, inspiring her to consider pathways within the healthcare industry.

A heartfelt thank you to Gleneagles Hospital Kota Kinabalu, their staff, and Dr. Tan for their guidance and support in making this internship such an insightful and rewarding experience. A journey of discovery, growth, and purpose, Athena's experience is a true reflection of learning beyond the classroom.
