Moving into 2026, I was working on two very different, yet equally demanding projects.

In early January, I worked on a qualitative doctoral thesis in education by a highly respected, retired senior journalist with over 40 years of industry experience. The writing beautifully blended journalistic storytelling with academic depth; my role was to refine it without losing the author’s distinct voice.

Mid-month, I shifted to a public sector policy document for a client who is both a journalist and an experienced policy researcher. This required a different lens altogether: clarity, precision, and alignment with policy expectations.

Working with clients from similar professional backgrounds, yet across very different document types, constantly stretches my expertise. It reinforces that good proofreading isn’t just about fixing errors; it’s about understanding purpose, audience, and genre.

As the semester wraps up, I reflect about this teaching journey and what it has meant to me.

Teaching has always been a passion.

Being able to teach part-time keeps me connected to the classroom and reminds me why I enjoy this work so much.

Teaching Gen-Z is a different ball game altogether. It pushes me to listen more, adapt faster, and rethink how learning happens.

Blending subject knowledge with the right teaching approach takes patience and experience; especially when it comes to keeping their attention.

The growing presence of generative AI in the classroom has reinforced one thing for me: teaching is constantly evolving, and so must we, the educators.

I’m closing my 2025 teaching chapter grateful for the conversations, the challenges, and the memories that came with them.

Looking ahead to 2026 with aspirations for more learning, growth, and meaningful work experiences.

Teaching and Learning International Symposium

Honoured to return to my alma mater — the Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) — as a presenter at the TaLIs 2025 symposium, after six fulfilling years since I last presented.

When the call for papers was announced, I felt a strong desire to contribute back to the education and research community. I immersed myself in literature, identified a meaningful gap, conducted a needs analysis — and eventually, a paper was shaped to be presented, and hopefully, published.

The experience was deeply enriching,from gaining fresh insights, engaging with inspiring educators and researchers, to meaningful knowledge-sharing and networking with the industry.

It was especially surreal to stand again where my postgraduate academic journey began 10 years ago — not as a student this time, but as a contributor to the discourse.

Grateful for the opportunity. Looking forward to more research, collaboration and continuous contribution to the field of education.
