Meet Zuyyin and Syarif, another two interns at Tanjong Jara!

One came in with a lifelong love for animals and found herself getting a little too close to nesting turtles. The other arrived with plenty of questions of his own, only to discover that conservation tends to give you even more questions in return.

Between hatchling releases, turtle talks and conversations with the people who live and work along the coast, both have had plenty of opportunities to see what conservation looks like beyond the textbook.

Here’s a little look at their time with us so far.

Bagi musim ini, tinggal lagi 3 siri berbaki sebelum tamatnya sesi Kelas Pentu tahun 2026 yang diperkasakan sepenuhnya oleh The Habitat Foundation.

Dalam Kelas Penyu Siri 11, kita akan belajar cara mengenali dan membezakan penyu melalui gambar dan ciri-ciri fizikalnya. 📸🔎

A turtle hatchery at Lang Tengah?!

Yes. You read that right.

Last year 2025, Lang Tengah recorded its second-highest number of sea turtle nests in 12 years, with a total of 81 nests — 68 Green Turtle nests and 13 critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle nests.

But with more nests comes greater responsibility.

Previously, we relocated all nests laid on the beach in front of our research station. However, last year alone around 10% of total nests were predated by monitor lizards, including one nest where the entire clutch was lost.

While monitor lizards are a natural part of the island’s ecosystem, we also need to do what we can to protect vulnerable turtle nests and give more hatchlings a better chance of making it to the sea.

This is where a hatchery plays an important role.

With the generous support from Yayasan Kossan and Kossan International & LD Technology, we were able to build a dedicated hatchery and improve our hatching success rate by providing a safer place for relocated nests to incubate until the hatchlings are ready to begin their journey to the ocean.

A big thank you to Yayasan Kossan and Kossan International & LD Technology for supporting our sea turtle conservation efforts at Lang Tengah. Your contribution helps us protect the next generation of Green and Hawksbill turtles while continuing to conserve this important nesting site.

Because every nest matters and every hatchling deserves a chance.

There’s something special about watching a mother green turtle come ashore, lay her eggs, and return to the sea. ♥️

Every turtle has her own journey and now, you can give one of them a name.

One name. One turtle. One journey.

Through our turtle naming programme, you can choose a special name for a mother turtle that comes to nest at Pantai Chakar Hutan. It can be a little gift for someone you love, a meaningful name for yourself, or simply a way to feel a little more connected to her journey.
And when she returns to our beach to nest again, we’ll be here to follow her journey with you.

This conservation work is made possible with the support of SEE Turtles 🐢, and we’re truly grateful for their support in helping us protect these turtles and their nesting beach.

Ever wondered how we recognise the same sea turtle when she returns to nest?

Every nesting female has two unique identifiers: the tag numbers attached to her flippers and the distinctive pattern of scales on her face. Using Photo-ID, we can identify individual turtles each time they come ashore, allowing us to follow their nesting journeys across multiple seasons.

This season, several familiar faces have returned to our beaches. But many of these remarkable mothers are still waiting for a name.

Through our Turtle Adoption Programme, you can adopt and name one of theM while directly supporting the field research and long-term monitoring that help protect them. Every name becomes part of her story, and every adoption helps us continue ours.
