On 16 August 2026, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) had the privilege of welcoming 27 Form 4 and Form 5 students from Tzu Chi Foundation (Kuala Lumpur and Selangor)’s “Dawn Project” to the UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The programme aimed to provide students with a glimpse of university life while inspiring them to work towards their SPM and future tertiary education journey.

The session began with an ice-breaking activity which was followed by an introduction to UTAR by Ms. Eunice Chong Poh Theng from the Division of Programme Promotion (DPP), covering UTAR’s programmes, entry requirements, quality education, professional networks, collaborations and industry recognition.

UTAR Ambassadors, Ms. Cheryl Tan and Ms. Tan Ching Ning, engaged the students in a short activity designed to nurture teamwork. This was followed by an interactive WayGround quiz conducted by Mr. Chew Zheng Xin from the Department of Student Affairs (DSA), allowing students to test their understanding of UTAR.

Ms. Amira from the Department of Scholarship and Financial Aid (DSFA) also introduced the scholarships and financial aid opportunities available at UTAR. Current scholarship recipient Ms. Cheryl Tan and UTAR alumnus Mr. Chew shared their university experiences, study tips and co-curricular involvement. The programme concluded with a campus tour and Q&A session.

UTAR is grateful for the opportunity to plant seeds of knowledge and motivation in these students as they work towards SPM. We hope the event has inspired them to pursue their aspirations while bringing awareness that UTAR could be a potential pathway in their future higher education journey.

Led by Dr. Ooi Mei Lee from the Faculty of Science (FSc)

Students explored the fascinating world of chemistry through two colour-changing experiments! They learned how red cabbage can be used as a natural pH indicator to identify acidic and basic solutions, while also discovering the principles of oxidation-reduction reactions through an indigo carmine experiment. Through these hands-on activities, students were able to observe how chemical reactions can produce fascinating changes in colour. 🌈🧪
