🎹 Meet the Artist – Yik Toong
Yik Toong is a Malaysian classical pianist based in the Netherlands, active as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist. She began her piano studies at the age of six under Ms. Ie Ling Lee, achieving a high distinction in ABRSM Grade 8 and earning a Trinity ATCL diploma under the guidance of Ms. Hau Ping Ping.
She completed her Bachelor’s degree at Fontys Conservatorium Tilburg, studying with Keiko Shichijo, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Piano Performance under Keiko Shichijo and Vitaly Samoshko. Alongside her studies, she works at Fontys as a guest teacher and accompanist for lied and ballet classes.
Yik has performed at prominent venues such as TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht), Schouwburg Concertzaal Tilburg, Willem Twee (’s-Hertogenbosch), and De Schalm (Berkel-Enschot). Her performance experience spans a wide variety of settings, including home concerts, churches, care homes, municipal memorial services, weddings at the Noordbrabants Museum, a book presentation, and café performances. She has also collaborated with wind orchestras, performing film and dance repertoire. As a soloist and chamber musician, she has appeared internationally in the Netherlands, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Italy, and Belgium.
She has participated in numerous festivals and artistic projects, including the Baroque Festival Zutphen, Bach Dag, November Music Festival, Debussy Garden Festival, Hilvarenbeek Garden Festival, Guldenberg and Ulvenhart Concours, and the Kim’s Kroeg concert series. Her project work includes the Fortepiano Haydn Project, Handel’s Solomon opera project, and a lied festival featuring the premiere of works by Dutch composer Jan Willem Nelleke. She also took part in an Erasmus exchange in Parma (From Ravel to Satie), representing her institution in performance.
Her accolades include a Gold Prize at the International Music Competition (Hong Kong), First Prize at the Nico Vis Chamber Music Competition with Sinar Duo, Second Prize at the Foon Yew High School Piano Competition, and Best Accompanist at the Kuen Cheng High School Singing Competition. She has also performed twice in ABRSM high scorer concerts and was recently awarded Fourth Prize at the International Schubert Competition Vienna 2026.
Yik has participated in masterclasses with distinguished musicians including Olga Paschenko, Sergei Edelman, Naruhiko Kawaguchi, and Nicolas Callot, further enriching her artistic development.
Chamber music plays a central role in her artistic identity. She has a cello-piano duo with Linh Bui from Vietnam, together they won the first prize for the Nico Vis Chamber Music Competition. Sinar Duo is active in the Netherlands and internationally, with tours and performances in Vietnam and Malaysia.
An experienced collaborative pianist, Yik has worked extensively with instrumentalists across a wide range of disciplines—including cello, violin, flute, saxophone, clarinet, and marimba—as well as with singers and choirs ranging from church and children’s choirs to opera and pop ensembles. She is also active as an opera pianist and regularly accompanies student recitals and examinations.
In addition to her performance career, Yik has pursued studies in piano accompaniment, jazz piano, and conducting as part of her electives. She is also active as an arranger for solo piano and chamber ensembles and has led workshops for primary school students. Apart from that, Yik worked as a piano teacher at Xin Xin Yamaha Music Centre for two years before heading to the Netherlands for her studies. Yik Toong continues to build an international career that integrates performance, collaboration, and teaching.
易同是一位马来西亚古典钢琴家，现居荷兰，活跃于独奏、室内乐及合作钢琴领域。她六岁开始学习钢琴，师从Ms. Ie Ling Lee取得 ABRSM Grade 8 优秀成绩，并在侯彬彬老师的指导下获得 Trinity ATCL 文凭。

作为经验丰富的合作钢琴家，她与多种乐器演奏者合作，包括大提琴、小提琴、长笛、萨克斯风、单簧管及马林巴，同时亦与歌唱家及合唱团合作，涵盖教堂合唱团、儿童合唱团、歌剧及流行音乐合唱等多种类型。她亦担任歌剧钢琴伴奏，并长期参与学生音乐会及考试伴奏工作。
除演奏外，她亦修读钢琴伴奏、爵士钢琴及指挥课程，并活跃于钢琴及室内乐编曲创作，同时曾为小学学生举办音乐工作坊。在正式赴荷兰深造前，易同曾于 Xin Xin Yamaha Music Centre 担任钢琴教师两年。
易同目前持续发展其国际音乐事业，融合独奏、室内乐、合作演奏与教育工作，致力于多元化的音乐实践与艺术表达。
