The Centre of Hydrogen Energy (CHE), representing the Institute of Future Energy (IFE), UTM, was honored to participate in the Hydrogen Workshop Series 2 at Le Meridien Putrajaya.

Organized by ISE UNITEN, this workshop served as a vital strategic platform bringing together government agencies, industry leaders, and academia to drive Malaysia’s Hydrogen Economy & Technology Roadmap (HETR) forward.

The day was packed with high-impact discussions aimed at bridging the gap between research and industry:

Expert Perspectives: Deep dives into the hydrogen landscape with insights from Sarawak Energy and the Fuel Cell Institute, UKM.

Collaborative Forum: Our very own experts from UTM joined forces with SEDA and TNB Research to discuss the future of the hydrogen ecosystem.

Strategic R&D: A focused Round Table Discussion on how university-led R&D can directly support early-stage industrial deployment.

🚀 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝
To accelerate Malaysia's position in the global market, two critical themes emerged:

1. "Build Some, Buy Some" Policy: A pragmatic approach to bridge the local talent gap while ensuring Malaysia stays at the forefront of the latest hydrogen value chain technologies.

2. Market Readiness: Acknowledging the challenge of Green Hydrogen being 4–5x more expensive than Grey Hydrogen. Addressing this price gap is essential to creating a sustainable "ready market."

"Realizing Malaysia's hydrogen economy requires an extraordinary synergy between all sectors. It is about turning complex challenges into collaborative opportunities."

Just wrapped up a high-impact Hydrogen 101 training session with CHE IFE UTM trainers for the leadership teams at TNB and MARii, MITI.

We took a deep dive into the "nuts and bolts" of the hydrogen economy, covering everything from production and storage to combustion and safety.

The Highlights:
*Proven Growth: Our pre- and post-tests showed a massive surge in technical mastery📈
* Hands-on Demos: Real-world interaction with electrolyzers, fuel cells, and storage tanks.
* Future-Proofing: Connecting the dots between technology and Malaysia’s NETR goals.

We really emphasis for the participants to understand the fundamental principles about the hydrogen technologies especially on the electrolyzer, fuel cell, hydrogen properties, safety aspects and others.

Moving from "hype" to "hardware" is how we make the energy transition a reality.

Seeing these executives engage with the tech firsthand shows that Malaysia is ready to lead.

🌱 Empowering TNB Executives to Shape Malaysia’s Bioenergy Future

15–16 December 2025 | TNB ILSAS, Bandar Baru Bangi

The Centre of Hydrogen Energy (CHE) and Institute of Future Energy (IFE), UTM delivered a targeted two-day Bioenergy Training Programme for TNB executives, strengthening strategic insight as TNB evaluates biomass as a source of firm, green electricity.

The programme explored Malaysia’s biomass potential, conversion pathways, supply-chain readiness, and key feasibility considerations, highlighting the role of bioenergy in energy security and the Net Zero 2050 journey.

Bioenergy offers reliable, dispatchable renewable power that complements other renewables. Building executive-level capability is essential for informed planning and future deployment of biomass-based energy solutions.
