In today’s world, where fields overlap and companies and individuals are more connected than ever before, effective communication is an essential skill. Whether at an interview, a presentation to management, a sales pitch to potential customers, or a school project, it is vital to be able to address other people confidently, comfortably and articulately. Since 2003, Elizabeth Louis has been developing the talents of young children through story-telling and public speaking. The idea for StageCraft actually started as a small seed when Elizabeth began to channel her passion for the arts, to help children find and use their voices and whole beings in a process that used drama and speech to develop self confidence and self esteem. She started first with her own children and those of family and friends before reaching out to many others from different backgrounds. At the same time, she was also very involved in the Johor Society for the Performing Arts (JSPA), the Johor Arts Circle Chorus (JACC) and even sang with the Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO) in a French opera Des Contes d’Hoffman ( Tales of Hoffman ) at the Esplanade, Singapore. Eight years later, in 2011, she founded StageCraft and has since been able to reach out to more students and schools through its enrichment and outreach programmes. Qualifications And Experience
Elizabeth has an ATCL Performing (Speech and Drama) and an LTCL Teaching (Communication Skills). All our other StageCraft teachers also possess a minimum ATCL (Associate of Trinity College London) in either Speech and Drama, or Public Speaking. In 2012, we were proud to have been the only centre in Johor, invited to send participants to the Singapore Performing Arts Festival (SPAF) where the 2 schools we had trained managed to place 1st and 2nd in the Choral Speaking category. Several of our students also won places in the Public Speaking, and Verse Speaking categories. Since 2011, StageCraft has been the largest centre in Johor successfully entering candidates for the Trinity College London (TCL) Grade Examinations in Speech and Drama, and Communication Skills. We have also worked with schools to prepare their students for the TCL Grade Examinations in Choral Speaking and the Young Performers Certificates. Among these schools are Fairview International School, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Tebrau and Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar UDA 2, NURI Kindergarten and REALkids Setia Indah - both leading pre-school in Johor Bahru. StageCraft also conducts courses and workshops to train and prepare teachers, with the aim of encouraging the development of speech and drama programmes within their own schools.
