🌐 Paving the Way for Malaysia’s Quantum Future at IRC 2026

Congratulations to Dr. Yap Yung Szen from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for representing UTM as a panellist at the International Regulatory Conference (IRC) 2026.

As part of Dialogue 5, Dr. Yap joined distinguished experts from academia and industry to discuss the future of quantum technology in Malaysia. During the session, he highlighted the importance of strengthening research infrastructure, developing specialized talent, and fostering strategic collaborations to support the proposed Malaysia Quantum Valley within the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone and regional partnerships.

The Department of Physics is proud of Dr. Yap’s contribution to this important national dialogue, reflecting our commitment to advancing quantum science, innovation, and talent development for Malaysia’s quantum future.

BioShield Glass is a next-generation multifunctional glass innovation designed to enhance hygiene and sustainability through built-in antimicrobial and self-cleaning properties. Developed using a phosphate-based glass matrix modified with chitosan and reinforced with zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles, the innovation offers improved durability, optical transparency, wettability, and antimicrobial performance. With strong potential for applications in healthcare facilities, laboratories, smart buildings, and public transportation, BioShield Glass represents a significant advancement in sustainable functional materials.

✅ Successfully Completed | MQA Accreditation Compliance Audit

The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully completed the MQA Accreditation Compliance Audit for the Bachelor of Science (Physics) with Honours (MQA/SWA0766), held on 29–30 July 2026. The two-day audit involved comprehensive evaluations, including document verification, interviews with faculty management, academic and technical staff, students, alumni, and industry representatives, as well as discussions on programme quality assurance and continuous quality improvement.

The Department extends its sincere appreciation to the audit panel, faculty management, academic and professional staff, students, alumni, industry partners, and everyone who contributed their time, expertise, and commitment throughout the audit process. Your dedication, teamwork, and unwavering support were instrumental in ensuring the smooth ex*****on and success of this important exercise.

This achievement reflects the Department’s continuous commitment to delivering high-quality education, maintaining academic excellence, and strengthening our programmes in line with national quality assurance standards.

The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia successfully hosted the Higher Education Physics Teaching & Assessment Workshop on 29 July 2026, bringing together academics to exchange best practices and innovative approaches in physics education.

We were honoured to welcome two distinguished speakers from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom:

🎓 Dr. Farrah Zainol presented “Beyond the Mark Scheme: Assessment, Moderation and Calibration in Physics at Higher Education Level”, sharing valuable insights into effective assessment practices, moderation processes, and calibration strategies to ensure fairness and consistency in higher education.

🔬 Dr. Christopher Brown delivered “The Full Practical Lab Cycle: Delivery, Assessment, and Calibration”, highlighting comprehensive approaches to laboratory teaching, practical assessment, and quality assurance in physics education.

The workshop provided an excellent platform for lecturers, educators, and researchers to engage in meaningful discussions, exchange experiences, and explore evidence-based teaching and assessment practices that support continuous improvement in higher education.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Farrah Zainol and Dr. Christopher Brown for their inspiring presentations, as well as to all participants for their enthusiastic engagement and valuable contributions. We look forward to fostering more international collaborations that strengthen teaching excellence and academic innovation.

UTM terus memacu masa depan teknologi negara apabila menerima kunjungan Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi di Makmal Komputer Kuantum bagi menyaksikan inovasi komputer kuantum tempatan yang pertama.

Berbekalkan kepakaran hampir dua dekad, usaha ini membuktikan keupayaan universiti tempatan dalam meletakkan Malaysia sebaris dengan pemain global dalam revolusi digital berasaskan sains kuantum.
