๐๐ข๐๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐จ, 6 June 2026 โ In an effort to equip future engineers with the mindset, skills, and industry awareness required in an increasingly dynamic professional landscape, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully organized the FKE FutureReady: Talk. Pitch. Compete. programme at DK4, P19. The one-day programme brought together FKE students from various departments within the faculty such as Communication Engineering (COMM), Control and Mechatronics Engineering (CMED), Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE), Electrical Power Engineering (POWER) and Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences (BME) for an immersive experience combining industry engagement, collaborative learning, and innovation-driven activities.
The highlight of the programme was an inspiring industry sharing session delivered by FKE alumna, Puan Zafirah Bahiyyah M Zulkifli, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PETRONAS Innovation Garage (PING23 Sdn. Bhd.). Through her talk entitled โFrom Campus to Careerโ, she shared her remarkable professional journey spanning engineering, strategic planning, venture building, talent development, and executive leadership within the industry.
Drawing from her personal experiences, Puan Zafirah presented seven valuable lessons that shaped her career journey. Among the key messages shared were viewing rejection as a form of redirection rather than failure, challenging self-imposed limitations, embracing the willingness to become a beginner again, appreciating the value of perseverance, investing in transferable human-centric skills, maintaining faith in God's plans, and having the courage to seize opportunities before feeling fully prepared.
The session resonated strongly with participants as it offered an authentic glimpse into the realities of career progression beyond the classroom. By reflecting on her own transitions across multiple roles and industries, Puan Zafirah demonstrated how adaptability, resilience, and continuous learning remain critical attributes for long-term professional success.
Beyond the industry talk, students actively participated in group discussions, idea development exercises, and pitching sessions designed to strengthen communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. These activities encouraged participants to translate
ideas into practical solutions while experiencing the collaborative nature of engineering innovation.
The programme concluded with an engaging presentation session where students showcased their ideas and received valuable feedback from evaluators. The combination of industrial insights and experiential learning created a meaningful platform for participants to enhance their confidence, broaden their career perspectives, and develop competencies aligned with current industry expectations.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering extends its deepest appreciation to Puan Zafirah Bahiyyah Zulkifli for her invaluable contribution and continued support as an FKE alumna. Programmes such as FKE FutureReady: Talk. Pitch. Compete. reflect the facultyโs ongoing commitment to strengthening academia-industry connections while nurturing future-ready graduates who are innovative, adaptable, and prepared to thrive in the evolving global workforce.

๐๐ข๐๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐จ 22 Mei 2026 โ Bridging the gap between academic curriculum with industrial standards, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia successfully hosted the โEngagement Program with SAMTECโ last Friday. Held in the vibrant smart classroom in p19a, the event drew an enthusiastic participation from 69 Mechatronics students, engaging directly with the SAMTEC representatives in a relaxed, yet highly interactive setting. Representatives from Samtec Asia Pacific (M) Sdn Bhd include Mr. Jeff Ibrahim, the Plant Manager himself, Mr. Saiful Adli, the Engineering Manager, Mr. Mutaza Mazlan, the Global Vision Engineer and Mr. Nazri Mahat, the Learning and Development Manager.
With an opening remark from the Head of Department for Control and Mechatronics Engineering Department, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Herman bin Wahid, the engagement program was strategically designed to tackle the evolving needs of the global engineering workforce. The core attraction of the event was the introduction of the SAMTEC Cooperative Education (COOP) Program, which has been in motion since 2024, with the participation from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Unlike the traditional 12-weeks industrial training attachments offering limited real-world exposure, COOP Program is a highly structured two-year program which alternates systematically between industrial corporate demand and academic schedules, with meticulous care on prioritizing the latter, while offering attractive enticing monetary incentives to the selected students. The arrangement was proven to instill a significant impact, when improvement in academic performance was observed after just one semester in the program for Mr. Muhammad Eiman Hakim Abdullah (Eiman). Eiman is a third year Bachelor of Electrical-Mechatronics Engineering student, the FKE pioneer in the COOP program, started in October 2025.
Injecting a heavy dose of real-world perspective to the session, Mr. Jeff Ibrahim shared his personal story of rising from a humble start to leading a major manufacturing facility. His message to the 69 mechatronics undergraduates was clear; while academic performance matters, the industry, looks for individuals with resilient characters, strong analytical skills, an independent voice, and a collaborative spirit.
Highlighting how effectively the UTM-SAMTEC alliance bridges the academics-to-industry gap, Mr. Jeff revealed that COOP students are treated as engineers, viewing them not just as students under supervision, but as competent engineers tackling real-world challenges alongside him. This equal-footing corporate immersion is exactly the kind of transformative impact that sets this program apart.
The session truly came alive during the interactive dialogue, where the mechatronics students participated actively, firing off thought-provoking questions keeping the SAMTEC team on their toes. To sweeten the deal, the SAMTEC team rewarded these bold questioners with exclusive corporate gifts, instantly shifting the room's energy and leaving a lasting impression on the future engineers.
Following the formal briefing sessions, the room transitioned into a buzz of one-to-one networking as eager undergraduates approached the SAMTEC professionals to delve deeper into the COOP program framework. This post-session meetup also featured a highly anticipated huddle between several invited fourth-year students and the SAMTEC team; with the final-year students actively seizing this valuable face-to-face opportunity to position themselves for immediate engineering roles upon their upcoming graduation in September 2026.
The faculty was deeply honored to welcome the professional team from SAMTEC Asia Pacific Malaysia Sdn Bhd. This exclusive engagement serves as a direct pipeline connecting academic talent with high-end industrial engineering environments, presenting students with unprecedented job security and premium salary packages that shatter standard entry-level industry benchmarks.
