6 simple games that teach your kid self-regulation - Today's Parent The younger kids learn to control their emotions and behaviour, the more successful they are in classroom learning—and life. These fun games will help.
"They're not misbehaving. They need help regulating.
When children can co-regulate with their grownups (parents, teachers, etc.), they focus at a faster rate, and take those self-regulation strategies with them as they grow. Here are our favorite ways to co-regulate with children:
1. Bounce or tap their bodies to the beat (if they don't want to be held or touched, that's OK. Model movements for them).
2. Free dance to music—they want to showcase their own moves!
3. Try to follow their movements and have them follow yours. This builds trust as you synchronize heartbeats and brainwaves.
Young children NEED connection to focus, learn, and thrive. Let's do this. "
