On Human Rights Day 2016, we plan to bring together a number of organisations whose missions serve to bring justice to the plight of marginalised individuals. We seek an open discussion to address these human rights issues.

Let's have a real, honest conversation on this day so that it will bring us closer to understanding these issues and make us aware on what we can do to further the social causes in our country.

For this purpose, we have multiple events lined up including an exhibition by various NGOs, a forum and a public speaking competition for you to take part in and express yourself. See you there!

Liberalism Conference 2016: Can Liberalism Save Malaysia? – Ideas 09/09/2016

Referred to as either Libertarianism in the United States or Classical Liberalism in the United Kingdom, the term Liberalism has become increasingly misunderstood in Malaysia.

Liberalism has in fact been part and parcel of Malaysia's genesis. On 31 August 1957, Tunku Abdul Rahman read out the Proclamation of Independence which included the words (that the Federation) "shall be for ever a sovereign democratic and independent State founded upon the principles of liberty and justice and ever seeking the welfare and happiness of its people...". Our Rukun Negara which came about after the tragedy of 13 May 1969 held that Malaysia aspires to achieve unity amongst its people by "ensuring a liberal approach to her rich and diverse cultural traditions". Vision 2020 also holds that one day Malaysians will live in a society β€œthat is democratic, liberal and tolerant, caring, economically just and equitable, progressive and prosperous.”

Liberalism forms an important part of our nation's birth, it was referred to during our greatest moment of crisis and it is one of our greatest aspirations for our future. So what does liberalism have to say about the challenges faced by our country today? How can liberal ideas be used to formulate a solution? Can liberalism save Malaysia?

This conference will explore the big issues, to spark a debate about the role of liberal ideas in our country today.

Remembering Robin Williams, born 65 years ago today. Your words live on.

09/07/2016

"Stereotypically power would be thought to be authority, command and control. I don’t think that’s real power. That’s coercive power. Happily and luckily for us, we’re living in a world where technology and all sorts of change has made power a shared thing. When I think about power I think about commitment, influence and the power to actually get something done. You get that by being authentic and honest and straightforward and working hard and letting yourself be vulnerable."

Tour Some Of Zaha Hadid's Iconic Buildings On Google Street View 07/04/2016

Zaha Hadid was an Iraqi-born British architect. Being the first woman and Muslim to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize, she was certainly accustomed to fame and recognition with a multitude of awards under her belt. On 31 March 2016, Hadid died of a heart attack in a Miami hospital, where she was being treated for bronchitis.

Although simply 'viewing' her works will not match the actual experience of being to the places however, we reckon this is still a fun and exciting way to discover her art and persona. After all, art is supposed to incite emotions and elicit responses in its audience.

Info: Hadid liberated architectural geometry with the creation of highly expressive, sweeping fluid forms of multiple perspective points and fragmented geometry that evoke the chaos and flux of modern life. A pioneer of parametricism, and an icon of neo-futurism, with a formidable personality, her acclaimed work and ground-breaking forms include the aquatic center for the London 2012 Olympics, the Broad Art Museum in the U.S., and the Guangzhou, China opera house.

Tour Some Of Zaha Hadid's Iconic Buildings On Google Street View β€œMy work is not within the accepted box,” Hadid said in a past interview with HuffPost. β€œMaybe because I am a woman. Also an Arab."
