Choose Your Tutor Carefully

I recently received a message from a distressed parent. She trusted a tutor, but unfortunately, her son was taught incorrect methods and it was flagged by the school teacher.

This is more common than people think.

Add Math tutors today can be very pricey, but price does not always reflect quality, accuracy, or experience.

I’m not here to claim I’m the best but I want to share this from 17 years of experience working with students and managing intakes.

My journey started right after SPM, teaching my juniors. During STPM, I explored primary education (not quite my path). In college, I tutored in KL just to survive , RM400 allowance wasn’t enough.

I later worked at a homeschool and even assisted in business operations and marketing under a regional taxation figure. Eventually, I made a decision to commit fully to education.

From day and night tuition classes…
To becoming a parent…

To teaching in an international school…

Many students find Mathematics difficult because they misunderstand the question, not because they cannot calculate.

🔎 Simple Tip:
Look for keywords in the question.

➕ Total / Sum / Altogether → ADD
➖ Difference / Remaining → SUBTRACT
✖ Each / Product / Times → MULTIPLY
➗ Shared equally / Per → DIVIDE

⭐ Transparency Matters ⭐

A little introduction for those who may be new here.

I’m Ms Nisha, lead teacher at Pusat Tuisyen Maks10 Sains & Matematik. I have more than 15 years of teaching experience, including teaching in international schools, homeschool programmes, and private tutoring. Over the years, I have had the privilege of guiding 100+ students, and I have even been invited to teach at student hostels to help students prepare for important exams.

Teaching is something I take seriously. My approach has always been:
📚 Explain the concept clearly
✏️ Practice with structured exercises
🧠 Discuss answers and mistakes
📈 Build confidence and exam skills

Recently, a review mentioned an experience where a teacher “just bought books and asked students to do them.”
I would like to clarify that this is not the teaching approach practiced in my classes or by the teaching team under Pusat Tuisyen Maks10 Sains & Matematik.

Our centre occasionally has different tutors using the same premises at different times, so the experience described may have been from a different tutor not connected to our teaching team.
