QIU'S TESL HEAD OF PROGRAMME APPOINTED TO EDUCATION MINISTRY'S LANGUAGE COUNCIL

QIU takes immense pride in the fact that our academics continue to shine on national and regional platforms with their performance and achievements.

In another proud moment for our University, the Faculty of Social Science's Professor Dr. Ranjit Singh Gill has been appointed to the Education Ministry's English Language Standards and Quality Council.

The council, which was announced by Education Minister Maszlee Malik recently, is set up to control the standard and quality of English in Malaysia.

Prof Dr Ranjit, who is also Head of Programme for Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) is one of a seven-member panel.

The panel is made up of English language experts from public and private universities, English professional bodies, and individuals active in research.

They include Prof Dr Ranjit, Adjunct Professor Zuraidah Mohd Don, from the Sultan Idris Education University; Professor Anna Christina Abdullah, from the Wawasan Open University of Penang; Dean of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Prof Hazita Azman, and a former associate professor at the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Mardziah Hayati Abdullah.

The other panel members are Associate Professor Ramesh Nair at the Academy of Language Studies, Universiti Teknologi Mara; Cambridge International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examiner trainer P Jaya Pushani.

Congratulations to Prof Dr Ranjit on the honour- we have no doubt that you will excel on the council!
