My mum has always ensured that my brothers and I got 'A's for all our art subjects when we were in school. She taught us painting tricks, gave us ideas for our art projects and bought the best paints and brushes for us. I remember we went looking for dried palms at Peel Avenue to help me make a kampung house for my collage project. Because of her, my paintings and art projects were often exhibited to decorate the school. Soon, my friends too sought her guidance during exams and that was how Janne of Art came to be, wayyyyyyy back in 1989. It is now 2014, Janne of Art has morphed into an Arts and Crafts centre. My mum has taught easily a few thousand students all these years. Her students range from boisterous 5 year olds, art teachers and art college students to leisure loving grandmothers. The repertoire of creativity include handmade products, bottles and rocks painting, candle making... and anything that takes her fancy. More than that, I have seen people who think they never had in them to draw more than a stick figure, able to produce works of art fit for a gallery after just a few lessons! I think this is what makes my mum the happiest and proudest. It is to see her students flourish, to surpass expectations, to receive reports on the 'A's her students have garnered and to empower grandmothers who now have 'orders' for art pieces from their children and grandchildren. Janne of Art is built on a passion for all things beautiful, a love to create and a drive to empower. I've set up this page for her so that everyone can know what she does apart from being the best grandma to Jonathan! She is a real rockstar! And she enjoys rock music and a Bacardi anytime
So keep your eyes peeled for updates and pictures. My friends who were also her students do leave a comment or share your story here. Art and crafts classes are every Saturdays and alternate Wednesdays for those itching to find your inner artist.
