Dr. Chang Kah Loon 拿督曾家麟博士, PhD (USM), FCILT, FLogM, who has been officially appointed as one of the industry advisors for the Net-Zero Greenhouse Gas Consortium (NGGC), which is under the initiative of the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), to address the green-related challenges and issues.

The ceremony of appointments took place officially at USM on 8 May 2026 (Fri) and was graced by the presence of our NGGC Patron, Dato’ Seri Sr. Hj Rozali Bin Hj Mohamud; and CGSS Director, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Wira Mohd Shafiei, PhD (Leeds).

Our Dato' Log. Ts. Dr. Chang Kah Loon 拿督曾家麟博士, PhD (USM), FCILT, FLogM, spoke on the topic of "Leadership and Effective Talent Management: Fostering Organisational Strategy in Service Industries" at the "International Conference on Leadership in the Service Economy", jointly organised by the National Higher Education Research Institute (IPPTN), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and the Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), on 5 May 2026 (Tue).

As one of the invited panellists, Dato' Chang Kah Loon mentioned the existence and professionalism of logisticians, who had been around for more than a century; the characteristics of logistics services and their leadership and management; and a basic but "tough" element of ensuring continuity and sustainability, which is "exercise management" for practitioners in the service economy. That may seem easy, but many are unable to maintain it. From such simple management, we can see a series of abilities and capabilities in a person, including discipline, time management, commitment, consistency, persistency, communication, mentality, health consciousness and many other necessary attributes in our current leadership and management.

Additionally, our Dato' Chang Kah Loon also urged the departments concerned to factor in maritime logistics to the programme curriculum, simply because maritime logistics accounts for more than 90% of global trade. Therefore, we should not have focused solely on the remaining 10%, which primarily pertains to local efforts or last-mile logistics management.

There were more than 200 participants, mostly vice chancellors, chief executives, deans, directors, and industry leaders, in attendance.
