Using hands to pick up green beans and place them into different bottle caps is a beneficial activity for childrenβs development. It helps strengthen fine motor skills by encouraging the use of finger muscles and pincer grasp, which are important for writing, buttoning clothes, and other daily tasks. The activity also supports hand-eye coordination, bilateral coordination, and concentration as children carefully control their movements.
From a sensory integration perspective, handling the beans provides tactile input through different textures and shapes, helping children process sensory information more effectively. Sorting the beans into specific bottle caps also promotes visual discrimination, problem-solving, and early cognitive skills such as matching, counting, and categorization. This simple hands-on activity combines sensory exploration with learning in a fun and engaging way.

Requesting is a valuable way for children to practice and develop their social skills. When children make requests, they learn how to communicate their needs, use appropriate language, and interact with others in a meaningful way. Requesting encourages children to gain another personβs attention, maintain eye contact, take turns in conversation, and respond appropriately to social situations. Through regular opportunities to request help, items, or information, children build confidence in expressing themselves while strengthening their communication, social interaction, and relationship-building skills.
