KP2027: What is it, and what does it mean for your child? 📚✨

Big changes are coming to Malaysian education in 2027, and it is not just about the option for children to start Primary 1 earlier at age 6.

KP2027 (Kurikulum Persekolahan 2027) introduces curriculum changes which will be rolled out to all national schools including SJKCs, starting with Standard 1 and Form 1 next year.

So what are the key changes parents should know about? How might they impact your child’s learning journey? And how is Purple Dragon preparing our children for this next chapter? 🌱

STEM: What’s under the ground? 🌍🔍

More geologist action incoming! 🪨⛏️✨

This time, our 3 year olds took their exploration beyond the classroom and into the garden, armed with magnifying glasses, buckets, and lots of curiosity! 🪣🔎

As part of the HEI Schools approach, we love bringing learning into the real world, where children can see, touch, dig, discover, and make sense of the world around them 🌱

The children had so much fun searching through the soil and collecting hidden “treasures” cleverly placed by our teachers. Who knew digging could be such serious scientific work? 😄

What is happening to children’s attention span and behaviour these days? 🤔🧠

In our latest blog article, we explore emerging findings around interactive devices and brain development deficiencies that result in attention span deficit, emotional regulation issues, impulse control problems. 📱👧🏻👦🏻

Academic understanding is still developing, and there is much we do not yet know but the headline recommendation is NO INTERACTIVE SCREEN-TIME FOR CHILDREN UNDER 5. But what is also clear is that young children need more real-world social interaction, physical education, outdoor play, social connection (including with parents), adequate sleep, stable routine and opportunities for child-led imagination and play-based learning. 🌿🤸‍♀️💬💤

We also look at why this conversation is not just about screens and the deterioration of IQ since 1975 due to changes in play, family routines, outdoor freedom, school structures and social interaction. 🧩

The article also offers some practical advice on the issue of attention span from a Paediatric Occupational Therapist.

These are not your usual flashcards! Our cards are twice the size of many standard sets on the market, printed on sturdy 300gsm art card, gloss laminated so they are more durable and water-resistant, and filled with bright pictorials your little ones will love 😍

Repetition is such an important part of early learning, and now you can use the very same cards at home that our teachers use with the children at school!

Ahoy, little pirates! 🏴‍☠️💦

To round up our July Water theme, our 4 year olds set sail on a pirate adventure full of dress-up fun, map reading, treasure hunting, and some exciting discoveries! 🗺️✨

They followed directions on the map, found buried coins, learnt new pirate vocabulary, and of course… counted their treasure! 🌟

The fun continued the next day with pirate-themed water play, complete with water pistols, squeals of laughter, splashes everywhere, and plenty of happy chaos 💦

What a fun-filled way to end the month of July! 🏴‍☠️🌊

Mirror, mirror… look at these little artists! 🪞🎨💛

As part of our Jolly Art & Pottery Enrichment course, the children recently explored the theme of self-observation. They looked carefully at themselves in the mirror, noticed their own features, sketched their self-portraits, and then brought them to life with colour and paint 💕

It was such a lovely activity for building focus, confidence, creativity, and self-awareness, all while giving the children space to express how they see themselves.

The second term of Jolly Art has just ended, and the third term will be starting in August. Parents, do look out for upcoming notice for 3rd term enrolment of our enrichment programmes and let us know if this is something you would like to sign your child up for! ✨

Tiny astronauts, big space adventures! 🚀🌙

This time, it was our younger kiddos’ turn to blast off into astronaut roleplay, and our 2 to 3 year olds had an absolute space-tacular time! ✨

They dressed up as little astronauts, explored moon rock experiments with baking soda, tried upside-down writing, and had fun playing with the amazing spaceship “equipment” lovingly built by our teachers 🪐

So much imagination, discovery, and hands-on learning in one cosmic adventure! 🌟
