Sometimes confidence comes with a little extra confidence. But we love moments like this.

Because children are learning that speaking up doesn’t mean getting angry or staying quiet when someone disagrees.

It means being able to say:
“This is what I think, and here’s why.”

That ability to think, respond and stand behind their own ideas is something we practise at The Speech Academy.

“My child talks too much.”
They ask a hundred questions.
Tell you things you already know.
Interrupt because they can’t wait to say something.
And sometimes…
you just want five minutes of quiet.

But one day,
they may stop telling you everything.
The silly stories.
The random thoughts.
The things that don’t seem important.

So yes, teach them when to listen.
Teach them not to interrupt.
Teach them that conversations go both ways.
But don’t make them feel that
having a lot to say
is something they need to change.

Help them learn how to say it.
Because that voice you sometimes find exhausting today…
may be the voice you’ll be incredibly proud
to hear speaking up tomorrow.

Why is it that when you ask your child: “How was school?” You get: “Okay.”

But the moment it’s bedtime…
Suddenly there are 10 stories to tell. 😅
Who said what.
What happened during recess.
What made them laugh.
What upset them.

And just when we’re saying,
“Okay, enough talking. Time to sleep!”
Maybe that’s the moment they finally feel ready to talk.

The day is over.
Everything is quiet.
And they finally have you to themselves.

You don’t need to stay up for another hour.
Sometimes, five or ten more minutes of listening is enough.

Because the conversation you’re trying to end might be the one they’ve been waiting all day to have. ❤️
