The Expert Panel Workshop (EPW) for the MSc in Petroleum Engineering and MSc in Drilling Engineering (Coursework) programmes under Petroleum Engineering Dept, UTP was successfully conducted yesterday.

We would like to extend our highest appreciation and sincere gratitude to all invited panels, lecturers, Industry Advisory Panel members, academia, industries and alumni representatives, for their valuable insights, constructive feedback, and active participation throughout the workshop session.

The meaningful discussions and collaborative engagement have contributed significantly towards the continuous improvement and enhancement of the programme curriculum to ensure its academic quality, industry relevance, and alignment with current professional needs.

We’re proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone as SPE UTP Student Chapter secures the *2026 Regional Outstanding Student Chapter Award (Asia Pacific Region)* under the Technical Dissemination & Professional Development (Large Chapter) category 🎉

This achievement reflects the unwavering dedication, teamwork, and excellence demonstrated by every member of the chapter. It’s more than just recognition—it’s a testament to the meaningful impact we continue to create within the community.

As we advance to the global round for the Presidential Award for Outstanding Student Chapter 🌍, we carry this momentum forward with pride and determination.

Special appreciation to our former advisor Dr Nur Asyraf Md Akhir for his invaluable contributions, to Ir Dr Mohd Azuwan Bin Maoinser for his continuous support and guidance, and to Dr M Luqman Hasan, Advisor of SPE UTP Student Chapter, for his leadership and commitment in steering the chapter forward.

Our Programme Managers for MSc in Petroleum Engineering, Ts Dr Berihun Negash and MSc in Drilling Engineering, AP Ir Dr Dzeti Farhah Mohshim, together with our Chair, Ir Dr M Azuwan Maoinser recently had the opportunity to be in Bangkok to showcase and promote Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)’s programmes, facilities, and technical expertise—particularly in Petroleum Engineering—to our valued industry partner, PTTEP.

This visit aimed to present our department’s capabilities while exploring potential collaborations in developing upskilling programmes tailored to industry needs. We also look forward to strengthening this partnership further through knowledge exchange, including the opportunity to visit PTTEP’s IOR/EOR laboratory.

We truly appreciate the warm engagement and look forward to meaningful collaboration ahead.

Honoured to host the Libyan Appreciation & Graduation Dinner, a meaningful evening celebrating the achievements and journey of our Libyan students on 24th April 2026.

Organised by the Faculty of Engineering in collaboration with the Petroleum Engineering Department, the event brought together academic leaders, distinguished guests, and valued partners.

The evening commenced with a welcoming address by Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Professor Dr Tang Tong Boon, followed by officiating remarks from our Provost, Professor Dr Benjamin Colin Cosh. We were also deeply honoured by the presence and speech from H.E. Mr Mohamed A.M. Attia, Ambassador of Libya to Malaysia, reflecting the strong ties and shared commitment to education.

Our heartfelt appreciation extends to the various National Oil Companies in Libya for their continuous support and sponsorship of these students since 2023. Your contribution has played a vital role in shaping future talents for the energy industry.

Congratulations to all graduates — your dedication and perseverance have truly paid off. Wishing you continued success in the next chapter of your journey.

Today we have successfully completed the ICR Workshop for MSc by Coursework, focusing on the curriculum review for the MSc in Drilling Engineering and MSc in Petroleum Engineering.

The workshop provided a valuable platform for meaningful discussions, insightful inputs, and constructive towards strengthening and enhancing our academic programmes.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved for your support, commitment, and contributions. Your dedication has truly led to a fruitful and impactful outcome.

And a special appreciation to our dedicated lecturer, AP Lee Jang Hyun for his contribution as the software trainer and coordinator for our department.

Looking forward to the next steps in shaping a stronger future for our postgraduate programmes. ✨

A meaningful day of engagement and collaboration 🤝
On 13 April 2026, the Petroleum Engineering Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) had the pleasure of hosting delegates from PRSB and Staatsolie, Suriname for a full-day engagement session on campus.
The visit began with the arrival of delegates at Block 12, followed by an introductory session featuring UTP and PRSB, along with technical presentations that opened avenues for knowledge exchange and potential collaboration. The delegates were also given guided lab visits, showcasing UTP’s facilities including the Drilling Lab, Flow Assurance Lab, Sand Control Lab, Centralized Analysis Lab, and Core Flooding Lab.
A key highlight of the day was the luncheon and meet & greet session with our Surinamese sponsored students. This meaningful interaction provided an opportunity to strengthen connections, share experiences, and reinforce the impact of international sponsorship and academic collaboration.
The Petroleum Engineering Department, UTP looks forward to strengthening this partnership and continuing impactful collaborations with PRSB and Staatsolie in the future.

Continues with meaningful and engaging academic discussions between KBTU and UTP, strengthening collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of energy and petroleum.
