Shereen Wong (2014 Alumna) joined Dignity for Children Foundation with the desire to serve the urban poor community and discover alternative ways to bring education to life. In collaboration with MYReaders, a not-for-profit organisation founded by 4 TFM Alumni, the team at Dignity has kickstarted a pilot reading programme for 40 teenagers who need literacy intervention. The teenagers come from very needy communities including Rohingyas, Somalians and Orang Asli. As part of the programme,17 teachers from Dignity were trained by the MYReaders team.

“Our vision is that more children from the underprivileged community will be able to read and comprehend English,” said Shereen. “We hope that the Rohingya and Myanmar community will be transformed and more readers will arise from the community.

“In the future, we will be able to roll out the reading programme with the Orang Asli community as well. We are also planning to integrate the MyReaders materials and methods into the curriculum of some programmes for sustainability and for higher impact.”

Shereen Wong is a 2014 Alumna who taught in a FELDA settlement in Pahang. She did her Accounting Degree at INTI International University & Colleges.

During Kem SKORLah Family Day, some of my students from MasterChef Kuala Repas decided to act as reporters and interview people who passed by our booth. My students were so keen and excited for conducting interview sessions! I'm so proud of them! Here's a video of an interview session with the School Director, Miss Sarah. The sound quality was really bad due to the loud noise around the area. But listen carefully, you still be able to listen to the conversation :)

Credits: Good job Akmal (the boy in red), Shafuan (the boy in blue) and Pavie (the girl in saree) for speaking out loud and so enthusiastic with the audiences! Also, good job to Aiman (the boy who holds the mic), Yussuf and Iqbal for being there for their brothers!

Something to do research on!

Over the next month, we would like to share information about our marine and terrestrial wildlife: turtles and elephants. Marine turtles have swum in the world's oceans for over 100 million years, surviving even the demise of dinosaurs. Moreover, turtles play an important role in keeping marine ecosystems healthy; the same ecosystems that provide us our seafood; as well as sustain our ecotourism and fisheries. We cannot afford to lose our turtles, help save turtles at http://wwf.org.my/turtle
