Microcredentials Adoption and Sustainability in Higher Education: Issues and Challenges
Date: 14 October 2025
Time: 14:00 – 16:00 (UTC+7)
Format: Online Dialogue (via Zoom)
Duration: 2 Hours
Theme
Exploring adoption pathways, sustainability models, and recognition frameworks for micro-credentials in higher education — with particular emphasis on policy alignment, institutional readiness, business viability, and technology-enabled trust.
Objective
This online dialogue aims to strengthen regional collaboration and shared understanding among policymakers, higher education leaders, industry representatives, and technology providers on the adoption and long-term sustainability of micro-credentials, highlighting:
- Adoption requires both national policy alignment and institutional readiness.
- Sustainability depends on viable business models and employer trust.
- Technology can support scale and portability, but credibility and recognition remain the core challenges.
Justification
Micro-credentials are gaining momentum globally as a flexible response to the demands of lifelong learning and workforce development. However, adoption across Asia remains uneven, and questions of sustainability, recognition, and credibility persist. This dialogue provides a timely opportunity for MICROCASA Consortium Members and SOI Asia Partners to collectively address these challenges, share best practices, and shape a regional perspective that can inform policy, institutional strategies, and collaborative action.
