kṣu̠tpi̠pā̠sāma̍lā-jyē̠ṣṭhāma̠la̠kṣī-rnā̍śayā̠myaham |

“May hunger, thirst, and impurities, emerging from (the consciousnesses of) decrepitude and Alakshmi, be eliminated.”

Although I’ve been working with the teachings of the Goddess Lakshmi (and Egyptian Hethr) for many years now, it is only in recent years that it took on formal sadhana. And over the last 5 days of teaching ‘Hiranya Shakti: The Alchemy of Gold’ — allowed me to not only access the deeper teachings of Lakshmi in all Her glory — but also having to go deeper into the roots of Alakshmi, the ‘shadow sister’ of Lakshmi.

Digging deep into the quicksand of Alakshmi, and staying there over 5 days, took quite a bit of energy from me. I saw the ‘decrepitude’ in my reflection in the mornings; so I hope I managed to convey the deeper meanings of the ‘5 Faces of Alakshmi’ to the students! Understanding the often unconscious poverty patterns and how they manifest in daily behavior is so, so important.

One can HAVE more-than-enough money but STILL act in poverty-driven attitudes to the world around them. This reflects that internally, one’s hunger, thirst, impurity, deterioration and emptiness are not yet purified, and are secretly driving one’s thoughts and decisions.

Just like our world today, being so technologically advanced yet mentally never before more thirsty and emotionally empty. Hiranya Shakti (and its mantra sadhana) is a call to rediscover the inner pool of radiance and authentic creativity — and learning to drink from that.

The highest manifestation and radiance of the Goddess as Tripura Sundari is indescribable. In the teachings of Sri Vidya, all paths experientially bring us back to Her.

As the pure Shakti of Kundalini stirs from its sleeping, coiled state, and begins its gradual serpentine ascent through the body and the chakras, one also begins to gain awareness of the various divine aspect of the self and the cosmos. Yet, the kundalini is also one of the most misunderstood, challenging, and oft-abused teachings in Ta**ra.

I hope to bring more clarity and groundedness to this topic, just as my Teachers have shown me. Covering everything you need to know about Ta**ra — ‘extending upon that which liberates’ — we culminate in a Dharana meditation which aims to build a foundation for the body and mind to safely awaken.

DONT’T GET FRIED

Coming into this world as a somewhat sickly child, physical exercise was not something that came naturally to me. In fact, in my early years with meditation and energy healing, I was secretly hoping that this would be a way to bypass having to deal with the complexities of the physical form.

Why complex? Because physical and emotional are intertwined. To strengthen the physical we have to deal with the underlying emotional (pain, shame, anger, unworthiness, etc)

But the deeper I went into Egyptian Alchemy then, the more I understood that a fairly strong physical body would be required to anchor and hold the higher vibrations. I was blessed with a Teacher from a nursing background, who showed us the consequence of channeling when the body was weak, the swelling that would eventually emerge over time, and what happens to the internal organs especially the kidneys. And because she had hundreds and hundred of students from all over the world, we also saw many live examples. A few did not survive the work after a few short years.

Our colloquial term for this: the nerves got ‘fried’. The body got fried (by the intense higher vibrations). Or the kidneys got fried (check for swelling in the ankles or overall bloating). Something of a psychic slash biological burnout and gradual shutdown.

Yes, there is a shadow-side to the ‘light work’. However, the underlying lesson is always that of self-love and self-awareness. The pattern seems to be the same: what are you willing to forgo in order to propel the ego?

When I reached a glass ceiling in my personal spiritual path some years back, I was guided by the Goddess to practice Sun Salutations (and subsequently, more kriyas followed). When I say glass ceiling, I meant that my clarity could not expand; I could not fathom deeper in the esoteric concepts; and the energy around me was starting to stagnate.

Interestingly this happened just before my first official Egypt Sacred Journey with students. And about 2 years later, my Egyptian Alchemy Teacher unexpectedly left her body. I was distraught of course, but once again, the Goddess showed me Her other faces through the parallel lineage of Ta**ra — Isis was Parvati, and Sekhmet was Durga.

My Yoga Asana and Pranayama teacher had already prepared me with the basics I needed to easily step into Ta**ra, where soon after I would encounter my ta***ic teachers.

But I will tell you this. Ta**ra, Mantra, Yantra, and Yoga… requires an even stronger functioning body, with a sound body-mind connection. Simply to allow the Prana, Agni, and Soma to flow.

“An unbaked vessel cannot contain Soma.”

A vessel (body-mind) becomes baked (transformed and refined) when it is put through intense Fire (Agni) again and again. This is the primary goal of Sadhana, a grounded and precise spiritual practice and training of the body-mind.

Also this: do not confuse Upasana (worship, ritual) with Sadhana (spiritual training). Both are great, but their goals differ.

What happens when Soma (higher energies, pure light) is poured into an unbaked vessel? The vessel shatters.

Sometimes we see people experiencing severe tremors, the body shaking uncontrollably, hallucinations, or becoming temporarily incapacitated, or start to mumble and shout incoherently — these are not signs of divine ecstacy, or the so-called ‘kundalini awakening’ as many would so love to believe.

It’s your nadis, nerves, and (eventually) kidneys… being ‘fried’ (overloaded).

My students often ask me, often with a sigh, “Teacher, don’t you get tired of all the ongoing purification and being tested here and there?”

It does get tiring sometimes! At times when I get demotivated, I ask my body what it needs to move and ground the energies within me. Often, a few days of my usual sadhana, or some strength training, can move things along. Sometimes a nice long walk with some good music does the trick.

And then I think back to when I was a sickly kid, the stuff coming out from my lungs, the constant fevers. I have so much memory of being ill. I grew-up with an insecure feeling of not being able to trust my body. Being ridiculed for it. And then in my teen years, the dark depression and desire to stop-living.

Purification is tough, but not nearly as miserable as compared to what I had before. I guess it cuts me the time of having to pursue external things thinking it will liberate me. I already know it won’t. And for that, I am grateful.

HIDDEN PROCESSES

*Long post warning*

It’s been a year since I’ve adopted this hair color. Last October while visiting the salt lakes in Siwa, Egypt, i saw an image of myself with silver hair reflected in the water.

Incidentally there was a hair-expert amongst my students, who quickly connected me with her Hair Technician back in KL.

‘Hair Technician’

Forgive me, but I never knew the amount of precision and science required for hair treatments! Chemical science. Hair types and profiles. Potential allergies. Not to mention training and experience, to ensure that the process is safe for the client — and successful. Hence the apt title ‘technician’. An expert in the technicalities of a field or subject.

It got me thinking of the unseen processes and preparatory procedures behind the things that people do and the services they offer.

I remember receiving my basic training for coffee sensory judging — it took me forever to understand the basics of bean, roasting, blending, and most of all — flavor profiling. Have you seen the colorful Coffee Flavour Wheel? (And having to learn each taste)

It was one of the hardest things I’ve tried to learn. Still average at best.

Of course, it also got me thinking of the work that I do, and the hidden processes that people don’t see. According to social media, apparently all I do everyday is drink coffee at some fancy cafe and the inspiration just comes, right?

‘Spiritual download’, was it?

Then I announce a random workshop on Facebook and it just ‘sells out’ because ‘I’m vibrating at a higher frequency’?

LOL.

Seriously though. Here’s what you don’t see.

If I had to share one aspect of it, I guess it would be the constant studying.

Be it Egyptian Alchemy from before, or Ta**ra now, my days (or rather, nights) are usually filled with study. Study and following practices.

Not too different from when I was doing Feng Shui a decade and a half ago, we had to study the classics. 入地眼，雪心賦，八宅明鏡… and so forth.

In Four Pillars we have 滴天髓，窮通寶監，三命通會… just to name the friendlier ones.

Similarly in Ta**ra too, there are countless classics and lineages of study, even if just an overview.

Every learning chapter requires practice of what was expounded. Most of the practices take months or years before some miniscule results are observable. This is the MOST TEDIOUS PART.

Oh, is there a difference between reading the source material in Sanskrit, versus a transliteration and translation?

Well. Unfortunately, English is sometimes a severely limiting ‘modern’ language, when compared to Sanskrit, Chinese, or even pre-dynastic Egyptian, which are ancient and highly nuanced.

This year alone I’ve completed 5 certification courses, all with written exams. Only possible through the Grace of Lord Ganesha, I tell you.

Next year I will be focusing on the Practical exams, which require me to travel to specific places to do sadhana (spiritual practices) there, and report my findings.

And at the end of the day, the most important component of spiritual study is this: Svadhyaya. The study, reflection, and understanding of self.

What has arisen today?
Why? Where is it rooted in?
In what way is this limiting me?
How can it be transformed?

What has made me this way?

Because more so in spirituality, these are parts of the observable results that arise from your practice, and what you have learned.

The spiritual path yields VERY TANGIBLE results when taken properly. Alchemy — and Ta**ra — are (intensified) accelerants.

Is it important to study the classical texts and source material?

It depends. For one who practices alone, and is guided by a reliable school or Teacher, then probably not.

But if you want to take on the role and responsibility of teaching others, then I’d say yes.

But can’t we just teach from our own life experience? Spirituality, after all, is a very ‘personal experience’? On other topics, it is possible through personal experience alone.

But we know that when it comes to spirituality, especially the esoteric sciences, one’s experience is often tainted by the very same subjective experience. Each human sees the world from their own limited karmic lens. Hence.

Anyway, I’ve said this too many times that I’m getting bored myself. You as a student or consumer of knowledge, it is up to you to be smart about what you choose to consume. Information is like food, it goes into your system and either nourishes your mind — or nullifies it.

There you go. The long answer to the question people like to ask me, “Why are you so busy?” But don’t get me wrong, despite all the ups and downs, the constant purification and the mental stumps — the thought of discovering a breakthrough is utterly exhilarating.

OF TEACHING & LEARNING

Teaching the deeper spiritual arts always makes me recount my own Teachers… and truly I’ve been blessed with various (elemental) types of teachers.

From the vivacious, playful one like flowing water — to the fiery serious, intensely brilliant ones; to the calm and earthy one, and the airy, intellectual one…

Each shaped me in ways I am still discovering. But the two most dear teachers to me are the fiery ones — those who lived their spiritual path intensely, fervently, and passionately. They are the ones that move and inspire me the most. They have been unabashed, honest, and raw with their humanity, unashamed and never needing to mask their emotions and experiences with being ‘spiritually proper’ or ‘only love and light’.

They constantly remind me, that there is no ‘wrong emotion’ or ‘bad emotions’ — only misunderstood ones. And when people shame you for experiencing emotions, it is their own projections and shame, not yours.

Of course, not anyone can take their intensity. Especially if one is easily offended, or seeking some sort of validation (instead of actually learning).

Or having the perception that spiritual teachers — perhaps, like those religious figures — are ‘supposed to be perfect’.

Oh dear. The notion that anything or anyone in this world might remotely ‘be perfect’ is a guaranteed recipe for disaster and disappointment.

On the other hand, how often do people ask themselves, “What makes a good student?”

Or: “Am I a good student?”

Am I truly present to learn — or am I seeking something else?

No wrong in seeking other agendas per se, but complications arise when one is not self-honest about their agendas.

I myself attend various trainings, retreats, and classes from time to time. I relish these experiences. For occasions where I am there to learn, I make an effort to usually not unnecessarily-discuss what I do or who I am. My reason is that I am there to learn, to be a student. I do not want my being a teacher get in the way of my own learning. Nor am I interested in sharing what I do in detail — or what you do, for that matter.

I believe, there is a time and place for everything. More so when energy work is involved. Bringing my own agenda, or other energies that are not aligned with what’s being offered, is often disruptive. Not to mention, disrespectful. This I’ve experienced not only in my own classes as a teacher, but also as a student attending classes by other teachers.

Most experienced teachers will easily shut it down. Or call it out. If it’s not my class, I hold my peace. Not my place.

Like one time I was in a yoga asana class when one of the students also attending made sure everyone knew that they had completed their TTC. And when no one bothered to engage, said person did a headstand whilst everyone was easing into Child’s Pose as per teacher’s instruction.

Trust me, it took some effort to hold my tongue. Again, not my place.

Teacher flatly said, “If the prana rushes to your head right now, you might get a stroke.”

The things people do for attention, often at the cost of their own well-being. Again, more so when energy-work is involved.

See the importance of healing your inner-child? So that one doesn’t act out for validation in the most inappropriate ways…

It’s always a little sad to see people coming for classes, having the opportunity to truly learn something profound from these great teachers… but are too busy struggling with their own wounds and either demanding validation from the teacher in some indirect, even unconscious, way — or bringing their own agenda to the class and try to ‘sell their wares’ completely unrelated to the class.

Yes, you’re probably very clever, here’s a pat on your head. But could you do your presentation somewhere else?

Or sometimes, people forget it’s not a one-to-one session, it’s a class with many other students.

In my 16 years of teaching — and more so the recent years — I am grateful to encounter students who understand and appreciate the depth of knowledge I am passionate about. Clearly it is no easy task. So much self-work is needed. I myself understand very well the risk and cost of ‘going deep’ — the response will definitely be much fewer than ‘going wide’.

Sometimes, I’m surprised I even have any students at all! Especially for those energy trainings that come with purification and so much preparation and grounding needed prior.

Spiritual teachers nowadays are a dime a dozen. Anyone can become a ‘spiritual teacher’ today after one or two weekend workshops. Gone are the days when one would need to practice what they’ve learned until there is a level of embodiment of the spiritual teachings. Today one requires a good PR and marketing team instead.

Tomorrow, Rahu moves into Pisces, and stays there for the coming 18 months. The star of eclipse and illusions entering the zodiac of dreaminess and escapism. You do the math.

I pray to God that we remember what it means to be a student — a wise, discerning, thinking student — and not become instead the pedestal-worshiping, savior-seeking, and unworthiness-groveling kinds. History has shown us time and again how that always ends. Not well.

If you want the world to wake-up and recognize peace, then YOU have to wake-up first, and recognize things as they truly are — and not how you hope them to be.

Own your wounds. Recognize your projections. Lol it’s gonna be an exciting year ahead.

SOLSTICE, SHIVA… AND A SUPERNOVA?

7 days to solstice, the tipping point of solar energy.

One of the brightest stars in Orion, , has been pulsing anomalously — perhaps even moving towards a supernova. Scientists are baffled. Betelgeuse is the Ardra, star of Rudra, the fiery form of Shiva.

My take: this is a resurgence of the Wild Man energy, the sacred masculine unbound by societal conditionings and logic-ego-mind domestication. How else can we as a species be strong enough spiritually and emotionally to embrace or contain the Wild Goddess and Her ?

Without the secret inner strength of Shiva, those who hope to harness Shakti will simply be obliterated. Chaos always ensues, history has shown us this.

Also noteworthy on solstice day:

🌞 The Sun enters Ardra, aligning with Betelgeuse

🌜The Moon meets with the already conjunctioning Venus-Mars in Ashlesh, the serpent nakshatra between Cancer and Leo.

For those who have eyes, let them see. Vasuki prepares to return to Shiva. The spewing-out of old poisons only to be neutralized. Deep dark shadows of hatred finding resolution in seeing the root hurt.

Old lovers meet again, only to part forever. The karma is finished.

What comes after that is an opportunity to merge afresh. New relationships from a new heart, more aligned to the (spiritual heart). Perhaps even an inner marriage of the shiva-shakti energies, reconciling finally after lifetimes of recoiling from one another.

It’s been 9 months since my shakti sadhana began. The mandir is ready. I am excited to be working with a small group of advanced students for a live Solstice Puja next week.

May the Goddess show us new and better ways for our to manifest itself. And may the things we choose to do with all our heart bring betterment to those we meet — and the places we go.

No more room for shadows. No room for the inauthentic.

SOLAR ECLIPSE: 25 OCT 2022

The upcoming solar eclipse occurs in Libra, in the Nakshatra of Swati. Commonly known as Arcturus, Swati is the ‘wind that cuts like a sword’.

(Avoid any major decisions in the 5 days before and after the eclipse)

Change is coming. We may ‘know’ this from a logical level; now is the time we learn this on a spiritual, level. All attachments and conditionings from old ways will be stripped bare.

A healing crisis. When the that has kept us in familiar security all these years is being revealed, is being obliterated — we cannot help but to feel the pain and despair at seeing the truth. Truth is hard and harsh; yet it is also liberating.

Dysfunction of toxic relationships being viewed as ‘normal’ or ‘loyal’ or ‘devoted’ is being called-out as what it truly is: a hostage situation bound by the shared karma of shame.

That in order to stay in a ‘shamed reality’, one feels compelled to shame and punish others who desire self-love and forgiveness.

“How dare you love yourself when I do not know how?”

Or. Self-shaming and self-criticizing for wanting to break free, to end the cycle of shame or living a guilt-driven life. Opportunity to cease such inner wars.

Call upon the great Ganesha, tamer of such beasts, to nullify the serpent of shame. Ruled by Vayu, the unruly ego-mind Ahamkara which devours all that is bright and inspired, justifying its behavior with theories from old books.

Yet when calmed by the Divine Hand, by cultivated wisdom, Vayu becomes the breath which stirs life from within.

At the end of the eclipse window, a new creative force awaits. Change is never easy. Yet what is true and meaningful — our dharma — is always worth fighting for.

Many relationships have completed their karmic run; time to let go.

FULL MOON ORACLE - JAN [20/01/22]

As the Scarab/Cancer Full Moon begins to wane, and moves into the domain of Sekhmet/Leo tonight, our attention remains inwards with the question:

“In what ways have I stifled my power?”

Scarab Full Moon seems to be a ground of ashes. Yet if you look carefully, if you bring your attention — and breath — deeper and look beneath the ashes… therein lies those secret spiritual embers.

Stoke them, those embers, with mindful breath and your attention. As they slowly reignite, allow the flames to burn again. What was once the fires of purification — now becomes the fires that light your way forward.

Fire is passion, energy, motivation, warmth, and spiritual clarity. Clarity is the precursor to the power to transform and transmute.

The lesson is not over. The initiation is still underway.

“What is one thing I need to implement in order to restore my personal power?”

With Mars leaving the Serpent-bearer to meet Venus in Heruset/Sagittarius — it is easy to become swayed by the drama and victim-savior of the external world and let your power be depleted. Stay inwards! Stoke the secret fires within and work your alchemy.

This month is truly a time for rebirth, an opportunity to chart a completely new course in your Spiritual Destiny. Come February 1st with the New Moon in Khnum/Capricorn — a new guiding star will find its way into your life.
