The call by Prof. Wan Mohd Nor Wan Daud to return ISTAC to the intellectual and institutional vision of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas deserves serious support.

ISTAC was not merely another academic centre. It was conceived as a civilizational project — a madrasah of higher learning dedicated to the Islamization of knowledge, intellectual rigor, and the cultivation of adab.

Institutions built on profound philosophical foundations cannot simply be absorbed into bureaucratic structures without losing their soul. Restoring ISTAC to the spirit and autonomy envisioned by al-Attas is not nostalgia; it is an act of intellectual justice.

Malaysia once hosted one of the most important centres of Islamic thought in the modern world. We should have the courage to restore it.

Have you ever noticed how hurricanes never cross the equator?
That’s because they rely on the Coriolis effect — the force caused by Earth’s rotation that makes storms spin.

In the Northern Hemisphere, hurricanes spin counterclockwise, and in the Southern Hemisphere, they spin clockwise.
But right along the equator, the Coriolis effect is almost zero — meaning hurricanes can’t form or sustain their spin.

Even if a storm tried to move across, it would lose its rotation and collapse.
So while hurricanes can rage across oceans, the equator acts like an invisible wall they can never cross. 🌍✨

When Japan’s electronic toll collection system unexpectedly failed for 38 hours, toll gates were opened to allow free passage. In most countries, that might have meant a financial loss that no one would recover — but not in Japan. After the issue was fixed, more than 24,000 drivers voluntarily paid their tolls online, even though they could have easily avoided doing so.

This act of nationwide honesty quickly went viral, becoming a symbol of Japan’s deep-rooted integrity and social responsibility. Experts said the event reflects Japan’s cultural emphasis on honor (meiyo) and trust (shinrai) — values that hold society together even without enforcement. It also underscores how strong civic ethics can lead to collective accountability, something many nations aspire to achieve.

In a world often dominated by shortcuts and loopholes, Japan’s drivers reminded everyone that integrity isn’t about being watched — it’s about doing what’s right, even when no one’s looking.

Perut kosong berakibat tubuh lemah.
Otak kosong berakibat hati gelap, jalan hidup salah arah.

Perutmu hanya menuntut dunia, tapi akalmu menuntunmu menuju Allah.

Jika perut perlu makanan, maka otak dan hati perlu ilmu, dzikir, dan hikmah.

Maka jangan biarkan akalmu kosong meski perutmu kenyang.

KENYATAAN MEDIA
Akademi Intelektual Muda Mengecam Tindakan Tidak Beretika Sarawak Tribune

PRESS STATEMENT
Akademi Intelektual Muda Condemns Unethical Reporting by Sarawak Tribune

The Akademi Intelektual Muda (AIM) strongly condemns the Sarawak Tribune’s report dated 12 August 2025, which carried the headline “Militant using press cover eliminated” alongside the image of the late Anas al-Sharif, an Al Jazeera journalist who was recently killed in Gaza.

This act is not only unethical and baseless, but constitutes a defamatory misrepresentation that tarnishes the dignity and integrity of the deceased as a journalist. Anas al-Sharif was a respected media professional known for his courageous and principled reporting from conflict zones, not a militant.

Sarawak Tribune must take full responsibility for perpetuating this biased narrative, issue a public apology to the family of the deceased and the journalist community, and retract the report. We stress that press freedom is not a license to spread falsehoods or manipulate public perception.

AIM stands in full solidarity with all journalists who risk their lives to deliver the truth, and we urge all local media outlets to uphold journalistic ethics—especially when reporting on armed conflicts involving civilian lives.
