The largest morbidity affecting humans daily is skin wounds. Wounds such as abrasions, cuts, burns, lacerations and incision wounds occur daily with thousands, maybe millions of cases daily. Almost every single human being has been affected by skin wounds. The normal process of wound healing in human takes anywhere between 3 days to 2 weeks, depending on the size and depth of the wound. Pain, swelling and loss of function are common complains during wound healing period. Therefore, the ability to reduce wound healing period or to expedite wound healing is much needed.
Our research has been able to demonstrate that Labisia pumila extract when applied topically to a wound site will expedite wound healing time up to 25%. This finding has a great potential to be developed into topical product which can be applied directly to the wounds.
