I don’t know if this is the right thing to say openly, but accepting new AddMaths students very close to the exam period was honestly one of my biggest mistakes previously.
Right now, my group class is already finishing the second last chapter. Recently, I received an enquiry from a student who is currently failing AddMaths and also has very weak Maths basics. In situations like this, I usually advise parents that group class may no longer be suitable, and 1-to-1 lessons would be a better option instead.
Not because we don’t want to help, but because in a group class, the pace and progress of the whole class can be heavily affected when one student is struggling too far behind. It becomes unfair to both sides.
AddMaths has never been an easy subject. If you feel your child is starting to fall behind, please seek help early. Don’t wait until the exam is around the corner and hope for a miracle fix.
A weak foundation takes time to rebuild, and rushing at the very end is painful for both the student and the teacher.
