“Two of my kids are at the high school I teach at, and so we drive to school every morning and back home in the afternoon, and just having that time to debrief and chat, even if it's just to air frustration and say, 'I don't get this thing' and I can ask questions and say, 'Okay, what's difficult about it?'. I'm not teaching them anything at that point, but what I'm trying to model to them is the value of them putting in the effort and also encouraging them to be resilient.”

He says we’re asking kids to be like pentathletes, trying to master so many different subjects at once!

“We're asking them to do that and play mental acrobatics every single day. It's hard. So let's just get alongside our young people and empathize with them."
