UAG's Neuroscience area made its mark at FENS Forum 2026 in Barcelona, Europe's largest neuroscience meeting.
Dr. Lucía Álvarez, Director of Neuroscience at UAG School of Medicine, presented as first author of a multicenter study on surgical outcomes in pediatric focal motor epilepsy, co-authored with UAG students Shelsie Olivo Torres and Alondra Canals. The research reflects collaborations with Hospital Civil de Guadalajara Fray Antonio Alcalde, Centro Médico Nacional de Occidente, and Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco.
Moments like this show what's possible when students train alongside faculty who are actively shaping international conversation in neuroscience.

Sometimes, the best alumni stories happen when you least expect them. 🩺
While attending the AAFP FUTURE conference in Kansas City, Dr. Manuel Alejandri Cruz ran into a UAG graduate from December 2018, now a third-year resident at Riverside. He also discovered that her sister is a fellow UAG graduate, having completed her studies in June 2018.
It was a great reminder of the connections that begin at UAG and continue to bring alumni together throughout their medical careers. From residency programs to conferences and communities across the U.S., UAG graduates continue to cross paths, share experiences, and open doors for one another.
One UAG connection can lead to another and sometimes, it can bring the UAG family full circle.
