FASTING
In Taoism, there are different kinds of fasting. Abstaining from food is one method, but there are others as well. It might be drink, it might be a habit, it might even be certain kinds of thought. The point is the same: we give something up because it makes us stronger.
You can try this yourself. Pick something, give it up for a set amount of time, and then see how it changes you. You can always go back once the period is over, but if you do this enough, you’ll develop an amazing discipline that will extend to other areas of your life. If you find that you don’t even miss the focus of your fast, then, as one of my teachers said, “it shouldn’t have been there in the first place.”
Still not sure what to pick? How about anger? Procrastination? Too much screen time?
Be kind to yourself. Start small and build up slowly. By giving up you gain in fullness.
