1. Woman hospitalized after being startled by humanoid robot: "Are you crazy?"

A woman on an evening walk in Macau was briefly hospitalized after a humanoid robot startled her and left her feeling unwell, police told AFP on Wednesday.

Police said they had received a call for assistance for the woman, who "was startled when she suddenly noticed a robot behind her while using her mobile phone."

Video widely shared online showed a woman angrily confronting a robot as it waved its metallic arms at her, while a crowd of curious onlookers gathered around.

"With so many other things to do, why bother me? Are you crazy?" the woman yelled at the unperturbed bot in Cantonese, as she gestured agitatedly towards it.

"You're making my heart race!" the woman added, according to the Macau Post.

The woman did not suffer injuries and there had been no physical contact with the robot, but she required hospital treatment, police said in a statement.

"She has since been discharged and has not pressed charges regarding the incident," which took place earlier this month, the statement said.

Social media videos showed officers leading a forlorn robot away, though police stressed they "did not seize" the bot.

The robot was operated by a Macanese man in his 50s, who said he was conducting a test and intended to use it for promoting his business.

Police said they reminded him to stay vigilant while operating the robot to "avoid causing danger or alarm" to passersby.

The robot in the images resembled a humanoid model made by Chinese startup Unitree.

The robot belonged to an education center that was conducting promotional activities in the area, according to the Macau Post.

2. Dancing robot goes rogue in California hot pot restaurant

A humanoid robot went haywire in a California hot pot restaurant, recent footage of the incident shows.

Footage of the situation was captured at the HaiDiLao hot pot restaurant in Cupertino, California. Staff members there stepped in to restrain the robot after it began knocking items down from a table during a dancing performance, according to Storyful.

The outlet cited a video posted by Xiaohongshu user , who shared the clip on the popular Chinese social media and e-commerce app. The footage shows the robot dancing inside the restaurant while guests enjoy the performance. But chaos soon follows when the robot slaps its hands on a table, causing chopsticks and sauce to go flying, Storyful reported.

"Three people couldn’t hold it back!" said in the video caption. "The little guy was too close to the table; it didn’t look like he was intentionally slapping the table," she added in an update to the original video.

3. Robot in Clown Wig Roundhouse Kicks Small Child

No may have come down in price substantially, but humanoid robots are far from hitting shelves at your local Toys-R-Us.

And for good reason, as a recent video that went viral on social media perfectly demonstrates. What appears to be a Unitree G1 humanoid robot wearing a blue clown wig can be seen confidently executing a roundhouse kick — squarely in the stomach of a young child in the audience, causing the kid to double over in pain.

Worst of all, the child did absolutely nothing wrong, and just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

While you’d be forgiven for stifling a dark laugh given the ridiculousness of the situation, the incident highlights lingering pain points when it comes to robot safety. As it turns out, powerful robots that can run up walls, perform highly complex choreographies, and deftly wield weapons aren’t exactly a perfect fit for a young child’s birthday party, even when they’re being remotely controlled.

According to the Chinese newspaper Shanghai Daily, the incident occurred in Xinjiang, a northwest region of China. Fortunately, the paper reported, child wasn’t seriously injured.
