Television and media can manipulate what is seen in several ways. Watching television can put us in an alpha state and transfer us into our right brain, resulting in the internal release of the body’s own opiates, encephalons and Beta-endorphins, chemically almost identical to o***m. The quality of shows can influence us in important ways, shaping our thinking and political preferences, even affecting our cognitive ability. The TV ‘world’ becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy: the mass mind takes shape, its participants acting according to media-derived impulses and believing them to be their own personal volition arising out of their own desires and needs. In such a situation, whoever controls the screen controls the future, the past, and the present.

Media manipulation is a top threat to modern democracies and public safety. According to the Oxford Internet Institute, social media manipulation campaigns increased by 150% between 2017 and 2019. Over 40% of people now believe that social media has enabled polarization and foreign political meddling. We also know that some nation-states budget billions of dollars for disinformation efforts annually. Governments, tech companies, and counter-disinformation teams rely on intelligence analysts to monitor media manipulation and its impacts across the web.
