Soapy bokeh and Flares 😍 It's why I love the vintage Auto Sears (Rikenon) 55mm f/1.4 with the Amazing hair of Kendra. I edited with Portra 400 from Filmist 2. It's sharp, but wide open has strong, colorful flares.

We could, of course, add a hood or a hand... But I like to lean into the flares for portraits, especially in hard light. The blur and flare combined are unique here.

In a world of AI fake perfection, I often find myself picking up old $50 lenses over my perfect modern glass. 25 years of portraits has taught me that atmosphere contributes far more to a photo than technically perfect lenses or edits.
