🌎💧 Learning beyond the classroom: Sustainable Water Use students at the 2nd National Forum on Flooding and Resilience
Students and professors from the Sustainable Water Use Concentration (7th semester) at TEC Campus Puebla had the opportunity to participate in the 2º Foro Nacional de Inundaciones y Resiliencia: De la gestión del riesgo a la transformación del territorio, held on September 7 at TEC Campus Estado de México 🌧️🏙️
The forum was organized by the leadership of the Water 360 Research Group from the School of Engineering and Sciences and brought together academics, professionals, and decision-makers to discuss one of the most important challenges facing our cities: how to build more resilient urban water systems in the face of flooding.
Throughout the day, the technical sessions addressed key topics including:
💧 Urban drainage and flood-risk management
♻️ Solid waste, circular economy, and their connection with urban drainage
🚰 Wastewater treatment, reuse, and urban water resilience
🏙️ Territorial planning, infrastructure, and land-use change
🌱 Integration of drainage, reuse, territory, financing, and resilience through a systemic approach
For our students, participating in this type of forum is particularly valuable because it connects directly with several topics of the Sustainable Water Use Concentration, including water planning and management, water infrastructure, watershed management, wastewater and reuse, climate-change adaptation, water security, sustainability, and resilience.
Beyond learning concepts in the classroom, these experiences allow students to understand how technical, environmental, social, and planning decisions interact in real water-management challenges. They also provide an opportunity to learn from experts, exchange ideas, and develop a more integrated perspective for addressing complex water problems. 🎓🔬🌎
A special thank you to Dr. Miguel X. Rodriguez Paz, Head of the Regional Department of Sustainable Technologies and Civil Engineering at Tecnológico de Monterrey, for his continued support of these learning experiences. 🙌
Congratulations to Rosanna Bonasia for organizing an excellent forum and creating such a valuable space for discussion, collaboration, and knowledge exchange around flood resilience and sustainable water management. 👏💧
Experiences like this strengthen the connection between education, research, and real-world challenges, an essential part of preparing the next generation of professionals in sustainable water management. 🌱🤝
