Am I wasting my life or am I just slowly & quietly progressing?

Lately I've been feeling like no matter how much I try, I always fall behind with my daily duties: the exercise, the cooking, the cleaning, the work, the side projects, my health, my mental health, etc. The list is long, but despite how much I do and try to exceed my own expectations, I'm still behind... But am I really behind or am I just slowly making progress?

I think that as long as we do our best every day (our best when healthy is not the same as our best when sick), we can still hold respect for ourselves and look up to the end goal.

Sadly, lots of very important things in human growth cannot be measured, so we tend to beat ourselves about how little we've accomplished in the material world.

This is why it's essential to spend time on our own to evaluate where our hearts are, because even if the world doesn't see it or instagram doesn't hear about it, our hearts know what has been done internally.

You can't measure how much more you love yourself, how easy it has now become to resist temptation & not fall back into self-destructive habits, how much more time you spend on your own & feel okay with that, how many "no's" you say daily now that you respect yourself a bit more, how little tolerance for inconsistency you now have.

Although you might not be all done with your goals & aspirations, showing up every day is a very good strong reason to celebrate your success.

I love my job.

I'm a Spanish teacher and while that has pros and cons, I just see the positive things in it and I'm just so grateful my life took this course.

I think what I love the most about it, is that the girl who would quit every job within the first three months has finally had a "real job" for 5 years haha.

I never saw myself as a teacher and although I do have my flaws as an educator, I know I'm pretty darn good. Confident, eh? Yes. I am. If there's something I'm proud of, is my work. My determination to keep on learning, how I am my own biggest critic and even though perfection has ruined a lot of things for me, it has allowed me to shape the "do it right or don't do it" mentality... & IT TAKES ME FOREVER, but when I finish my projects, I do it right.

I've gone through lots of ideas: "I'm not good enough", "I don't deserve this", "I don't deserve that", "I'm guilty for having it better than my parents" (the latter hurts the most), and throughout this journey, I learned that I'm not alone with this. Most of us struggle like this. But why do we feel so alone in our struggles then? It's because no one wants to sit at a table & bring out the darkest parts of themselves to talk about it & undress it.

The reason why I love my job, in a way, has little to do with my own teaching but everything to do with the teachings from life.

I taught my inner child that she wasn't a terrible worker but a bad employee and a very very determined entrepreneur, I taught her to not take rejection personally (still working on it in all truth), I taught her to trust & not give up and get a 9-5 when new students weren't coming my way, I taught her patience, the same patience I was given when I was an inexperienced teacher, I taught her that I was going to be with her no matter what & that it didn't matter who didn't believe me in me and in what I was doing because I DID and that was enough for us.

Opportunities come our way every day & we decide to either take them or let them pass, so I'm glad I took a chance & did something I initially thought that wasn't for me. I broke a false belief & life has rewarded me for doing so.

Spanish learning doesn't take years, in fact, it shouldn't take you months either.

Learn what you need in a matter of hours and speak right away.

Say simple things! Don't you worry about expressing complex ideas.
Language was made to communicate, getting the message across is easy & you can do it with simple tricks that will allow you to effectively say what you mean with 5-word sentences.

Every single Friday at 8pm I host a massive language exchange with a different game that I put together every week.

Last week we played jeopardy!
Winners got chocolate!

& At the end, we had karaoke! I’m trying to encourage everybody to bring their best rap. I love rapping Eminem songs as that’s where I learned most of my English… that plus FRIENDS and South Park. Yes, I’m very eloquent 🤣

We get together at 8 at Quinta de piedra every Friday.

This is a free event however to show respect to the restaurant and their waiters, getting drinks or food is mandatory.

Although I didn’t have the pleasure to work with them due to distance complications, these girls changed my world!

Soooo sooo sweet and kind. I remember leaving their house with such a warm feeling in my heart. Knowing I really really wanted to teach.

The mom was also super kind to me and they welcomed me in their house for a day.

I started creating new material for kids and later I had the opportunity to work with little ones for a while.
