It was truly an honor to be recognized with the Latino Excellence Bravo Award from HMC and share the stage with such inspiring Latinx leaders.
This recognition is grounded in the values my family instilled in me hard work, community, and faith in the power of higher education. I also carry with me the lessons I’ve learned from my students and their families, who remind me every day why this work matters.
I am grateful for my mentors, sponsors, and fellow educators who have guided and uplifted me along the way. Thank you for walking with me in this journey. I accept this award in community, not alone.

Thank you to Centro Cultural de Washington County for the incredible opportunity to join the stage with such powerful Latinas at the Latina Power Luncheon and speak on the Mujeres Que Mandan panel. I was so humbled and walked away with so many meaningful stories.
It was an honor to be part of a space that celebrates the strength and leadership of Latinas. Together, we are rewriting the narrative of what it means to be a mujer que manda!

My favorite graduate school professor reminded me that it’s okay to normalize admiring women of color. Here is a shout out to all the women of color that inspire me. To the women that help influence my life’s work not because of their titles or status but because of way they lean into their own power and remind me to do the same. Thank you to all the mujeres poderosas. 🫶🏽

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month. As an immigrant I am proud to be unapologetically Mexicana . I hope you are proud of your roots and culture no matter if it makes others uncomfortable.
“We are not defined by the borders we cross. We are defined by the incredible way we love, create, and live. We are defined by our courage and powerful drive for a better life.”-

Such a great week at NCORE! I got to meet so many of my Latina heroes including Deborah Santiago, CEO & Co-founder of Excelencia in Education. She has really inspired and fueled my passion for Latinx student success through out my Higher Ed career. Just like me, Deborah spent of years of her career in financial aid. I am grateful for her fierce and unapologetic advocacy in holding Hispanic Serving Institutions accountable for equitable Latinx students success.

Choosing a college or university is not always an easy decision to make. Here are several factors to keep in mind while making a decision:
💡 Opportunities - Check what opportunities each college offers. Look for internships, clubs, work-study, leadership roles, volunteering, extracurricular activities, and study abroad programs. These are chances to develop your skills, join a community, and have new experiences.
💡 Location - Consider how far or close you want to be from home, and how much transportation will cost to travel to and around campus.
💡 Academics - Look at what majors are offered, when you will be required to declare a major, and how many times you can change your major. If you don’t know what your major will be, you might want to choose a college that allows some flexibility in those areas.
💡 Campus Environment - Consider the environment of the college itself. How small or large are the class sizes? Do students tend to hang around campus or go straight home? Do you feel represented?
💡 Resources and Support - When you need advice or support, what can this college offer you? Examples to think about are: support for medical or learning needs, academic advising, tutoring, access to technology and media services, and counseling services.
💡 Cost - Examine the total cost of each college carefully. Consider the cost of tuition, housing, meal plans, books and supplies, parking, traveling to and from campus, and medical insurance. Compare the financial aid packages each school has offered you to get the best deal.
Some of these factors may rank low in importance for you and that is okay! Everyone has different priorities and what they are seeking from their college experience.
