This seems easy enough and yet it's hard to do day by day. We want to give "respectful parenting" a try and then an outburst or tantrum rolls around and we want to give it up.
It's not always easy but when you're able to you can:
🟠 Give choices, not commands (limit to 2 options)
🔴 Label the behavior, not your kid --> "It seems to me you're feeling angry,” not “you're an angry kid”
🟡 Be patient! Understand that emotional expression is healthy and they're learning to regulate!
🟣 Guide your kid in how to express emotions, "if you're feeling angry we can draw our anger, go out for a walk, etc" - provide alternatives on how to express the emotion not how to supress
🔵 Learning when to give your kid room and space to process an emotion before talking about it (we may have our parenting speech prepared but wait until he's calm to hash it all out)
it can be hard putting in the effort and not noticing the reward right away but it's all going to be worth it 🙌🏻
