🇵🇪 Explore IU in Peru September, 2026: relationships turning into opportunities.
⠀
We were in Lima less than a year ago, and it was exciting to return and see how much has happened since.
⠀
This summer, our Maurer School of Law successfully hosted 14 outstanding PUCP Law for a three-week Legal Writing workshop. This week, we had the chance to reconnect with many of those students—and with our fabulous IU alumni in Peru—at our alumni gathering in Lima. 💙
⠀
A special thank you to Prof. Diego Zegarra Valdivia, Johanna de Jesus Cadenas Zarate, Carla Chiclla Ortiz, and their colleagues at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú for organizing a fantastic campus visit in Lima this week. We connected with colleagues across law, engineering, music and the performing arts, graduate education, and international affairs. Prof. Scott Shackelford also led a master class for more than 40 students on “Fixing an Internet of Broken Things”—a great example of bringing IU expertise directly into the experience.
⠀
At Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Andrea Miranda Barreto brought us together with colleagues in biomedical engineering and public health to explore opportunities to work together. We also had the chance to tour Cayetano’s new Interdisciplinary Center for Advanced Simulation (SISA)—an incredible facility recreating real hospital environments and the largest simulation center of its kind in Latin America. Very cool to see firsthand!
⠀
We also connected with Comisión Fulbright Perú and EducationUSA Peru, met with students interested in IU, and visited five local high schools. And we loved having the chance to connect with industry leaders and IU friends like Victor Gonzalez-Maertens and Gonzales Guzmán, Alberto and continue building the broader network around IU in Peru.
⠀
For us, that’s the why behind Explore IU: showing up, listening, building relationships, engaging our alumni, and turning those relationships into real opportunities for students, faculty, and our university partners.
⠀
So glad to have Patricia Silveyra, Javier León, Scott Shackelford, Erika Alexander, Michael Shereda, and Molly Fisher representing IU throughout the week, with Miguel E. Ayllon helping make it all work from a distance. And most of all, thank you to everyone in Peru who welcomed us so warmly.
