Éxito does NOT mean exit! It means success!!! 🏆 Tuve éxito en el examen. = I was successful (or had a lot of success) on the test. 📝 Salida is actually the word for exit in Spanish. Funny story: I was in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 one time with someone that didn’t speak Spanish. We were driving to the south side of the island and he says “Man, this salida town must be HUGE. It’s on every exit!” 🤣🤣🤣 Don’t worry, I explained to him that salida means exit and we had a good laugh. Learning a language can be pretty funny! We just need to learn to laugh at ourselves! 😅⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When expectation is not the reality. 🤯🤯🤯 Mexico’s Independence Day 🇲🇽 is actually September 16th - a date us Americans don’t pay any attention to. So how did we come to believe that Mexico’s Independence Day was Cinco de Mayo? 🤷‍♀️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’m not quite sure how we got so mixed up, but I do know what Cinco de Mayo actually celebrates. On the 5th of May (obviously) there was a battle in Puebla between Mexico and the French during the Franco-Mexican War. Mexico took the victory! 🏆 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Worst part about our confusion is that Cinco de Mayo is not even widely celebrated in Mexico, much to our shock. 🤯 Nope! 😂 At least now we know the real reason we are eating tacos 🌮 on Cinco de Mayo.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Reflexive Verbs 👩‍🏫 The doer of the action is also the receiver of the action. YOU wash YOUR hands ✅ HE shaves HIS face ✅ SHE brushes YOUR teeth ❌ That’s weird! Cueva Ventana: Arecibo, Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 Cueva Ventana translates to Window Cave 🪟 and you can see why from this picture. After traveling through a pitch black cave 🔦, you find this beautiful view that is framed by this window. If you ever find yourself in Puerto Rico, Cueva Ventana is an item you will want to check off your bucket list. It’s about an hour drive from San Juan. Pro Tip: DON’T just spend your entire trip in San Juan. Puerto Rico is such a beautiful island ⛰🏝 and you won’t get views like this in San Juan.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
