Every Monday I'll be posting a noteworthy photograph from Spain.

Today's photo was taken by Kolo Chamorro on an unknown date in La Axarquía, Málaga, which is on the southern coast of Spain. It depicts 3 women formally dressed holding rosaries and another three women holding carnations. It seems that they are celebrating the day of the Virgen del Carmen de Torre del Mar. These types of celebrations are common throughout Spain and Latin America.

Why do most people fail at learning a language?

Many adults have the dream of becoming fluent in a language. But why do so many fail?

Is it because it's just too difficult to do and most people aren't capable of learning a language? Is it because they are too old? Or is it just something they're not good at?

I would say no, no and no!

I recently made a trip to Southern Spain. I went to Sevilla, Cádiz, Córdoba and Granada. One thing that stands out about this region of Spain is the Islamic influence that is present in the architecture, as you can see below in the Real Alcázar in Sevilla. This largely due to the fact that much of the Iberian Peninsula was ruled by various Muslim caliphates from 711 - 1492. There are so many other examples not only in architecture but also in the Spanish language, the food and the music. For the rest of the year I'll share a little more about this relationship every Friday.
