El Día de Reyes in Mexico traces its origins to the Christian celebration of the Epiphany, commemorating the visit of the Three Wise Men to the Christ Child on January 6. Introduced during the colonial period, the tradition was gradually reinterpreted through local customs, becoming deeply rooted in everyday life across the country.
This celebration blends European devotional practices with regional sociability. The Rosca de Reyes, a ring-shaped sweet bread adorned with dried fruits, symbolizes the crown of the Magi. Hidden within it, the small figure of the baby Jesus recalls the biblical flight into Egypt and transforms the ritual into a moment of shared responsibility and community.
In towns like Tizimín, Yucatán, the celebration extends beyond the home into public life, reinforcing local identity through faith, food, and gathering.

The conventual architecture of Yucatán is truly unique. Built by the Franciscans in the 16th century, these complexes were not only religious centers, but also spaces of power, education, and cultural transformation. Their massive façades, wide atriums, and cloisters reflect European Renaissance ideals adapted to the materials, climate, and symbolic landscapes of the Maya world.
