Habla connects people across cultures through language, learning, and community.

We offer Spanish Immersion in Mexico, professional development, and English classes. Founded by world-renowned educators Kurt Wootton and María del Mar Patrón Vázquez. Habla offers courses in Spanish, English, and in various art forms throughout the year. In addition to language and arts courses, Habla hosts international education events including a teacher institute and the Habla forum for education.

At Habla, we often begin and end our sessions in a circle.

Sometimes there is movement. Sometimes, stillness. We come together to share and reflect, to listen and be heard. At times, we gather simply to take in the present—to appreciate a sound, a silence, our environment, or the little things we sometimes overlook.

A circle sets the way we share a space. There is no front of the room and no single voice at the center. We are all here, together, making room for all voices.

Over the years, our circles have been the setting for conversations and questions, laughter and quiet moments. They have brought together people of all ages and walks of life: students and teachers, strangers turned into friends and colleagues, as well as groups returning, excited to reconnect.

A circle is more than a seating or class arrangement. It is a way of embracing our communities.

Imagine, for a moment, that your feet are back on that circle: What is something you still carry with you from that experience?

Can’t wait to read all of your thoughts in the comments!

Day 3: Habla Teacher Institute

Today we observed our drawing from the beach and used our memories to paint our jícaras. Then, we became "Maniacs with Words." A day full of art!

Day 4 we'll learn from teachers in The Power of a Room, one of the our favorite parts of the institute.

Today we explored two essential questions: What is worth remembering and holding onto? How do we pay attention and remember what we see?

Looking forward to Day 2 tomorrow!

We believe curiosity is one of the most powerful ways we connect with the world around us.

At the 2026 KID smART Biennial Arts & Education Conference in New Orleans, Habla Co-Founders and Co-Directors Kurt and Marimar led a workshop inspired by NASA’s Europa Clipper Mission and Ada Limón’s poem written for the mission.
Through poetry, scientific exploration, conversation, and writing, participants explored big questions about our universe: What makes a planet capable of sustaining life? How do we use creativity and curiosity to better understand the world around us?

Inspired by the work of scientists and poets alike, participants reflected on our place in the universe and the many ways we make meaning through discovery.

The workshop ended with a beautiful reminder: "We, too, are made of wonders."

Interested in bringing a Habla workshop to your school or conference? We’d love to hear from you! Send us an email at [email protected].
