Our trip to the beautiful city of San Miguel allende.

Today we celebrated the popular festivity of “El Día de la Flores” 🌷💐🌸🌺🌹🌻🌼 It has its origins as part of the celebration of “Viernes de Dolores”were traditionally people set altars in honor of the Virgin Mary of Sorrows. This year of course there is covid 😒so the city was a little empty but we could still experience the vivid colors, the smell of flowers (through our masks 😷😅) and the joyful atmosphere! Aside from the religious aspect of this festivity, the tradition is also giving flowers to friends and family 💐 Definitely one of my favorite days to share with our participants of the Spring semester! 😌🥰🥳

to last weekend’s excursion to 🤩 Kiana even said she would like to live there 🥲 Dolores Hidalgo is about one hour by car from Guanajuato City and it is a very important historically because it was right here where Mexican independence started back on the night of the 15th of September 1810 🇲🇽 it is also super pretty and the ice cream here is 🤤
We spend the day going to a few museums, walking around the central garden and we end the day with a delicious meal + ice cream 🍦! Always one if the favorite days for our students! 🥰

Another plus side of studying abroad in ... delicious food 🤤 first we have a couple of fruit bawls, then we have some enchiladas mineras, tacos de cochinita pibil, huevo con frijoles, puchero, and las but not least my favorite of them all enchiladas poblanas 🤩

to exactly one year ago when I was invited to to talk about our program Culture and Language Abroad (CLA) 🥰🙏
I remember there was starting to be some talk about the covid outbreak in China and the study abroad director, Alex, wasn’t able to be there because he was helping students in China change from their study abroad locations. Little did we know students from all around the globe where going to have to be sent home a few weeks later and the world as we know it would forever change 😅
Regardless of this, I enjoyed my visit so much and got to know many wonderful students and administrators from Soka 💛 #

Yesterday we visited the old hacienda . An Hacienda is a homestead set close to rural, agricultural or mining land, common in all Spanish colonial countries. Haciendas were officially abolished in 1917 during the revolution and now some or them are museums that help us understand how the Colonizers lived in our country. The history is definitely sad but now this one is particular has many beautiful gardens which are some of my favorites in the city! Overall a great activity! - specially more so during covid times!

Since cultural activities are a bit limited... we are going to explore all the different types of bread. It’s called research ok? 😅🔬🍩

Yesterday we received our first student of the year! Studying abroad during a pandemic isn’t easy which is why having the support of a program that will always have your best interest at heart is really important. When you study abroad you’re committed to discover a new culture and act as an observant of the good and the bad. Today, this means discovering Mexico with covid present. I always love seeing my own city through a fresh set of eyes (our participants) and today was no exception. In this picture we are enjoying a super yummy icecycle, Kiana’s was strawberry 🍓 and mine mango 🥭 we found a nice bench far from people and were able to feel a sense of normal for a few minutes 😅
