The cmsp Montessori Elementary Science curriculum builds a strong foundation in Biology and Earth Science.

In Health Sciences, students explore the body's systems — digestive, respiratory, circulatory — along with nutrition, exercise, and hygiene.

In Earth Science, they dive into plate tectonics, learning how earthquakes, volcanoes, and mountains form, plus the water cycle and the bodies of water that shape our planet.

🔤 A child's first foray into writing 🔤

At cmsp Children's House, the journey into written language can begin as early as 2½ to 3 years old — long before a child ever picks up a pencil to write by hand.

The Moveable Alphabet is often that first step. Its purpose is simple yet powerful: to let a child who can't yet read or write freely express their thoughts in words — and eventually, in sentences and stories.

Using letters they can touch and move, children construct words on their own, transforming thoughts into language before the physical skill of handwriting even develops. It's writing before writing.

In our cmsp Elementary classrooms, timelines bring history to life — from the evolution of the planet to the appearance of human life and the development of tools. Paired with the Great Lessons, these concrete materials spark curiosity and invite children to dig deeper, researching and reading to fill in the details themselves.

Some students take it a step further and create their own timelines. In the process, they practice the precision of measurement, along with sorting and classifying information to decide what's most important to include.

🇲🇽 A few weeks ago, our Children's House students celebrated Mexican Independence — learning about the history, symbols, and traditions that shape our national identity. 🇲🇽

The Moveable Alphabet is a key part of the Montessori Language Curriculum. Once a child can recognize and work with the sounds of phonetic letters, the Moveable Alphabet invites them to start building words — using the sounds they already know.

Its beauty lies in what it removes: the physical mechanics of handwriting and the pressure of proper spelling. Without those obstacles, children are free to express their ideas openly, discovering something powerful — that they can communicate through written language, long before they can write it by hand.

🌿 The Second Great Lesson: The Coming of Life 🌿

The Great Lessons are one of the most special parts of the Montessori curriculum — bold, exciting stories designed to spark a child's imagination and curiosity.

The Second Great Lesson tells the story of the coming of life on Earth, brought to life through the Timeline of Life — a chart of microorganisms, plants, and animals that have lived, or still live, on our planet. Children explore the diversity of life and the unique "job" each living thing plays in sustaining it.

Anyone who has watched a child, ages 3 to 5, in a Montessori Children's House classroom has seen it: completely absorbed in pouring water, buttoning a frame, or tracing a shape with their finger — undisturbed, unhurried, focused.

This isn't an accident. At cmsp, concentration is treated as a skill to be nurtured from the very beginning, not something that simply appears later in life. Carefully designed materials, uninterrupted work time, and a calm environment all work together to protect a child's ability to focus deeply on one task at a time.

That early concentration becomes the foundation for everything that follows — attention, patience, independence, and a genuine love of learning that lasts far beyond Children's House.
