47 years ago today I was a 21 year-old deeply depressed atheist artist. Waking up in the morning on the last day of art school (May 30) I asked life to show me a sign not to kill myself. Later that afternoon, after school was out, I was on a street corner for two minutes, saying goodbye to my art professor, and a lady named Allyson drove by and asked us if we would like to come to her end of the year art school party that night? It was there I had my first L*D journey, May 30, 1975. Behind closed eyes, I was spiraling through an inner tunnel of awareness, a “re-birth canal.” I was in the dark, but going toward the light. The light was infinite love and divine wisdom, it felt like God was revealed through a visionary symbol. The Polar Unity Spiral showed me that the opposites were connected by all the different shades of grey. Grey united polarities, and that was what I wanted to do with my art, so I decided to change my name based on that journey. Allyson, in whose apartment I was tripping, had also seen the transcendental light and we fell in love and have been together since that night. Saved my life. May the light of grace appear for all seeking peace. 💙🙏
Ps. In my attempt to integrate this turning point, I painted a semblance of the tunnel, which would make this spiral my first piece of psychedelic visionary art.
