This plant provides so much during the hottest time of the year. Great for pollinators, animals and humans alike, this plant is great for just about everything.

The berries don’t taste great raw but when you cook them the taste really shines through.

Everyone has loved it that has tried it. This is a great way for little ones to learn about and forage native plants. Add this to your next nature study!

Hi just here for a public service announcement. You can probably find it at the thrift store!

These social media platforms are just so saturated in consumerism that honestly sometimes it’s just too much to even tolerate. It’s so hard to ignore the constant marketing in your face. So instead of buying that stuff check the thrift first. They’ll most likely have it. Natural fibers and everything!

I do have some nice pieces in my wardrobe that I do splurge on, mainly but 90% of my other pieces are either thrifted or bought second hand off of poshmark or eBay.

Which do you think I should keep? Which should I sell? I do have many listed on my poshmark right now.. if you want to check em out 😊

I’ve found everything from Louboutin- to Coach and more at the thrift so tell me your best find !

📚 Here’s a typical Friday for us ☕️

We use Friday as our flex day where we always have a tea party and make some art. Nothing too academic. We enjoyed learning about Magritte and Franz Schubert this week.

Always in the kitchen. Love escaping in the afternoon for some good thrifting to get some time to myself. Found a nice hoodie and brand new pact organic jacket !!

Choosing the best path for your child and your family is possibly one of the biggest decisions we have to make as parents. There are so many options-something I do appreciate about living in the US. But there’s something that’s always a point of contention here - one of them has to be the BEST.

What need to realize is that there is not best for everyone. Each child is a different case and should be considered as so. I have worked at public schools and private schools and seen kids both thrive and flail in both environments. I also know some homeschool environments are probably not the best.

I think sometimes homeschool feels superior because it is like individualized instruction with the capability to achieve so much more with your own child with very few interruptions. A class with 20-30 some students definitely challenges this advantage in a whole other way. There is also so much more accountability in my small homeschool environment-something that can also get tricky in a school situation when the kids are shuffling off to another class.

But I went to public school and did well.
I worked in education for close to 20 years before I decided to change everything and become a homeschool parent.
I never thought I would become a homeschool parent until my kids were here and I tried to envision them in a school setting.

Ultimately we should be questioning all of the educational environments.

A place where the teacher and student put forth their best effort and guide one another in forming a relationship is the best environment. A place where the student doesn’t feel stressed or bullied. They don’t have to worry about violence. A place where they can make art, explore themselves and how to understand their emotions. A place that allows them to grow instead of breaking their souls.

This could happen in any of these three educational settings. It’s up to us as parents to decide which is best for us; public, private, or homeschool?

🍮 Texas persimmon pudding 🍮

This is one of our favorites to forage here in TX. It is such a rich flavor and so good for you! Here’s our favorite recipe.

Collect about 3 cups
Smash them
Filter out juice with sieve
Simmer on low for 20 mins
Add 2tbs butter, tsp vanilla, 2 tbsp cocoa powder

Let cool and enjoy !

🌵 Prickly pear 🌵

It’s that time of the year where you will find us pulling over on the side of the road to collect one of my favorites.. tunas !!

No, not the fish, the fruit. These native fruits are important to so many animals in our ecosystems and are delicious for us as well. They are everywhere. Pick em with tongs, wear rubber gloves to protect yourself, and go for it!

We love to use them to dye fabric as well, but during these extremely hot Texas days this is the best refresher.

What a great way to fit in a nature study with the kids. Have you tried harvesting these lovelies before ?

🌼 🍄 ☀️ It’s the small moments. 🌼 🍄 ☀️

We are often inside in these hot summer days. Boredom happens, but so does a little bit of magic if you let it.

It is important to show children that not every moment in life is exciting. There are quiet times. But during those times we should stop to notice all the magical things around us that are rooted in daily life. These moments are also very special. Take time to notice them.
