We were hosted for an amazing dinner and drinks on Sunday night by the Godparents of tequila; Robert Denton and Marilyn Smith. While they were working in the spirits industry since the 70’s, it was when Marilyn randomly tasted in 1981 when she saw potential in not just the brand but the category. They they founded with Felipe Camarena (not the Felipe we know now, but his father but named after his father) in 1988. Bob and Marilyn sold their interests of both brands to in 1999, but it was their hard work and passion to educate and share deliciousness with distributors, bar staff, and retail shops for 18 years which truly laid the foundation for every tequila brand since.

We are so grateful for everything you did for our dinner, time together, this industry and especially for your friendship!!

Muchisimas gracias!!

ps - we also got to hang out with the amazing who needs to just jump in and join us for a day or two!

Starting in 2017, we expanded to include a short, robust and amazing trip to Michoacan to deepen our knowledge and appreciation of Mezcal and the culture of Michoacan, and we’d love to have you join us! Wednesday April 24th: We will have a driver pick you up from the airport and bring you to Hotel Casino and we will get you checked in. Around 7pm, we will head out for dinner and cocktails at Tata Mezcalería + Cocina de Autor.

Thursday April 25th: After breakfast we will head about an hour south of town and spend the entire day with Emilio Vieyra of Mezcal Don Mateo at his vinata where he, his family, and their workers make some beautiful mezcales. This is a very special and amazing day. We will have dinner and drinks later on in the evening after we get back to town.

Friday April 26h: After breakfast, we will visit some small towns that are southwest of Morelia, around Lake Patzcuaro such as Capula (home of Las Catrinas). Quiroga (home of carnitas), the vinata of Mezcal Palomas Mensajeras, and then to the town of Patzcuaro for ice cream, chocolate, a mezcal bar. Dinner and drinks in the evening tbd
