Primary school in rural Malawi aiming to be the top Gov. school, where basic needs of the learners are met and combined with using advanced technologies!

The Matandani project started in 2012. Andy Monaghan, an Irish primary-school teacher, reached the Domasi region of Malawi after 18 months of travelling and teaching around the world. In Domasi, he volunteered at a community-run collection of rural nursery schools. Together with local and international volunteers, he built up the capacity of these schools to give poor kids a valuable headstart in

The building stages of our 'open' classroom! Built quickly and with great value (half the price of a normal classroom!) It serves a great purpose and will be used as a classroom for std 1 or 2 while their class sizes are so large !

With large class sizes still and not enough classrooms to hold them, we still had some classes learning under a tree! (Pic 1) We decided to try build a new 'open' classrooms that are far more suitable to teach in! (Pic 2)

A new and exciting project has been given the go ahead to start at Matandani! Through my work with VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas), I have been able to build my very own version of a mobile solar powered projector! This little invention has caused quite a stir in VSO and anyone who I’ve shown. With the advance of technology, I have been able to use a projector that is powerful enough to run off a battery but bright enough to be used in a typical Malawian classroom. [ 553 more words ]
