The Education Foundations Department is a department under the School of Education at the University of Malawi. The core business of the department is to prepare and develop professional human resources required to support, sustain, review and revitalise the primary, secondary and tertiary education sectors in Malawi. This mission is achieved through teaching, conducting basic and applied research and provision of consultancy services, in relation to the needs of Malawi and possibly Africa, in order to inform theory and practice in education. The department offers a range of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level (Master and PhD) in sociology, philosophy, economics, instructional media and technology, testing, measurement and evaluation, educational psychology, guidance and counseling and special needs education. The department is also involved from time to time in the provision of continued professional development to all serving teachers, educational administrators and managers; and to provide profession advisory and consultancy services to individuals, educational institutions, government departments, ministries, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and related stakeholders involved with education
