Fourth year actuarial science student visited the reserve Bank of Malawi last week Friday on 23rd November, 2023. They went there to learn about financial derivatives, forex, inflation, bonds and many things on actual financial market.

Congratulations to everyone who has been selected to study bsc actuarial science at UNIMA. We wish you all the best in your actuarial journey.

Unima students are now on holiday as they have finished writing exams on 30 June, 2023. They are opening on 18 September (starting with the first year) and the continuing student follow a week later.

UNIMA actuarial science society is pleased to inform you that it will conduct a first year welcoming function on 15 April from 2:00pm to 5:30pm in room A. The guest speakers include Mr Felix kapesa(president of insurance institute of Malawi), Mr Chimwemwe Kanyenda(Nico life operation manager, Daily times columnist on insurance insights) and Mr Edwin Mlenga(Fellow Actuary, Chief examiner at reserve Bank of Malawi, pension and insurance Supervisor department).

There is no any Actuarial science graduand in the ongoing graduation ceremony. The first cohort is in fifth year and will probably graduate next year.

Currently, bsc in actuarial science fourth year students aren't at UNIMA campus with the rest of the students this semester. They are doing industrial attachment at reserve bank of malawi, old mutual, NICO insurance, smile life insurance and zamala pension scheme.

Fourth year students are suppose to participate in industrial attachment as a program requirement. The attachment is organized by the university through mathematical science department. What else do you want to know?

It is the first time for others to here the word Actuarial science. What is Actuarial Science?

Actuarial science is the discipline that applies Mathematical and Statistical methods to asses risk in insurance, finance and other industries and professionals. More generally, actuaries applies rigorous Mathematics to model matters of uncertainty. Actuaries are professionals trained in this discipline.
