Do the recent unofficial results reveal anything about the popularity of the DPP or the fading popularity of the Tonse administration?

Memorable pictures as they tell stories of 1.unprecedented active citizenship towards governance 2. The loss of two important public figures to Covid19 and 3. A show of humility, tolerance and forgiveness by political leaders of Malawi. Lest we forget

Let's have a healthy debate about the recent proposal for the populace to contribute at least K1000 to the health budget. Is this feasible, viable, realistic and attainable considering the management and (lack) of transparency of health financing in Malawi. How should the government go about this if this arrangement is not achievable. Of course the majority of Malawians can afford to pay this but the finances are prone to abuse as evidenced by past experience with the health sector financing and management. What do you think?

The fuss about the leader of Opposition in Parliament of Malawi is exacerbated by either selfish vested interests or ignorance. For me, I understand a leader of Opposition as the leader of the largest party represented in Parliament and available - meaning elected into there. So for DPP, it's leader is not in the parley; the vice president for the north is not in the parley; the vice president in the centre is not in the parley but the vice president for the south is in there so the only logical thing to do is to let him be the leader considering that 1. He was elected vice president at convention and 2. He was the leader of the House when DPP was in power. There was no need for voting him to be the leader. I guess it was also logical for Malawi Parliament to accept Nankhumwa as the chosen nominee for the position of opposition leader bearing the facts laid above. What do you think?

Let's discuss this discussion

Parliament has reversed the decision by President of Democratic Progressive Party of appointing Francis Kasaila as new Leader of Opposition.

Parliament's decision follows a protest from Mulanje West MP Yusuf Nthenda who claimed that the Leader of Opposition is not appointed but elected by opposition Members of Parliament.

He said he himself did not participate in any election, hence questioned whether to allow DPP president Peter Mutharika, who is not a legislator, to dictate business of the House.

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Madalitso Kazombo threw back the matter to DPP to resolve and announced that Kondwani Nankhumwa remains the Leader of Opposition.
