FemEng have been nominated for the Covid Unsung Heroes Award 🏆

Due to COVID-19, our plans to work with MUST were adapted so we could continue to work to inspire more girls into STEM, albeit remotely. Through use of online tools and virtual meetings, we collaborated with our team at MUST who delivered a range of practical workshops to around 350 school girls in Malawi. 🇲🇼

Thanks again to our sponsors and supporters who helped the project come to fruition - we are continuing to inspire the next generation in Malawi using our online toolkit and partnerships. ✨

Around 350 Malawi School girls engaged with the FemEng in Malawi 2021 Outreach Project!

A huge thank you to the MUST team and our sponsors who made this possible and helped inspire the next generation of females into STEM.

To give back to the local community during a tough period, we set aside some of our funds to support the elderly in the area surrounding MUST. The girls brought hampers of essentials, including soap, food etc. which were greatly received by the community. Thank you to everyone who helped put a smile on these local residents.

Members of the FemEng in Malawi team, Kirsty Carlyle and Penny Morton, attended the reception hosted earlier this month by the Scotland Malawi Partnership and the First Lady of Malawi, Her Excellency Monica Chakwera. It was a pleasure to hear about the incredible work of the First Lady and her “Shaping the Future” Foundation. Networking and hearing from others who actively engage in supporting education of the girl child in Malawi emphasised the need and impact of work being done. 🇲🇼 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Our team visited Matapwata Secondary School to complete STEM Workshops with 140 girls. Chifuniro, Salome, Tamara, Mtondera, Racheal, Leticia and Ruth said the students were fascinated when they saw how the code they created was able to control the light and everything else! Huge thank you to everyone involved in creating and delivering an inspiring and successful STEM outreach event in Malawi.

Our team in Malawi recently visited Mapesi Secondary School to carry out more of our STEM workshops. Salome, Tamara and Chifuniro from the MUST team engaged with 50 school girls from forms 3 and 4. The first workshop was designed to teach school children about wind as a source of energy which is acquired using wind turbines. Additionally, a manufacturing engineering workshop was carried out to demonstrate how simple machinery is used across the world through creation of a hydraulic crane. The workshops were interactive, successful and fun - with some of the turbines spinning freely outdoors! Thanks to all involved for delivering another engaging and successful STEM outreach event! 😄🇲🇼💭

Our Malawi Team also visited Providence Girls Secondary School to deliver more STEM outreach! 138 girls from Providence Secondary School attended; completing our energy, biomedical and manufacturing workshops. The students discovered how wind energy is harnessed by wind turbines, how infant incubators conditions can be controlled to allow for optimal infant development and how hydraulic cranes are designed to carry heavier loads in industry. Another successful day of outreach, thoroughly enjoyed by all the students involved! ☺️
